I've heard some rumblings (NY Post, Realgm, and the radio) saying that Jackson is pushing for Kidd. We would give up Farmar, McKie, Mihm, and either Kwame/Vlad. I am not looking into this at all, I'm just taking it as what it is, a rumor. I've been fooled two years in a row now thinking the Lakers were going to make a deadline deal. Shape, have you heard anything?
I love how the Laker's role players are worth everyone else's franchise players. Yeah, the Nets took Marcus Williams over Farmar, but they're going to trade their franchise point guard (who is also the best point guard in the game at the moment) for essentially Farmar and spare parts? Is this going to come before or after the Bynum for Gasol and Odom for Garnett deals? PG - Kidd SG - Bryant SF - Garnett PF - FA, probably Nowitzki C - Gasol [/sarcasm]

It's just like Kidd to get overlooked though. He didn't win the MVP when he should have in 2001 over Duncan, no one gies him any credit for having the highest career APG (and one of the highest SPG) of any player playing today, and worse is that no one's making anything out of the fact that he's creeping up on being the second highest player in NBA history on the triple double list (not like that takes talent or anything). Really, he's probably the most underrated player in the NBA.

I don't even think Kidd received as much attention back in 2001.
I feel the same as you. Basically, the Lakes don't have the right pieces to acquire a player such as Kidd or Gasol if they aren't willing to move Odom or Bynum. I get so sick of these damn rumors, because it makes Laker fans look like idiots.

It's possible the Lakers made that offer, but I'm sure Rod Thorn had a good laugh before he hung up the phone. From a Laker perspective it's a great deal, we get a HOF point guard without giving up much of anything. However, it makes zero sense for NJ.

It's a huge improvement from his first blockbuster deal, by announcing to Pat Riley that Shaq was available.

I can't stand it when the fanboys on this site spew such nonsense.
The rumor is true, the Lakers did try to acquire J-Kidd but the Nets had a good laugh at Mitch afterward. Unfortunately, if the Lakers don't include LO, Bynum, or Kobe, the chance of getting J-Kidd is very slim to none. And those of you who wonder what the lakers intend to do with Mihm, Luke, Smush this summer, well Mitch said they expected to sign them back.
