<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If the Magic do make a move, it likely would involve the smaller pieces. Phoenix has repeatedly inquired about the availability of reserve guard Travis Diener, but Orlando has been reluctant to make a trade because of its unwillingness to take back Marcus Banks and his $20 million contract. Banks signed a free-agent deal with the Suns after averaging 10 points a game last season in Minnesota, but he's played in just 29 games this season for the streaking Suns. "We're not going to do anything with (Grant Hill's contract) unless something comes along that knocks our socks off," Smith said. "It doesn't make any sense for us to do a whole lot. I'm not going to go into the trade season actively looking to do something. "You've got to clean things up sometimes, and that doesn't necessarily mean dramatically changing things. That doesn't mean cleaning up the guys at the top of your roster. It's cleaning up situations where you have 31/2 point guards and 41/2 shooting guards."</div> Source No thank you.
As the story states, the Suns have agreed to it, the Magic are the ones who haven't. Banks' makes $4 million a year for 5 years, so that's why Orlando isn't so hot on the idea. Banks hasn't played well in the Suns system, it's not for everybody. I'm sure in the right system Banks can add a lot to a team. He is big, fast, and a good defender (his steals is what I thought the Suns would benefit from, cause that would lead to a fast break). The problem is he's not a playmaker like Nash, so he's not doing enough to merit minutes, no minutes means no production. Basically he's a taller/bigger Jameer Nelson, maybe that's why the Suns are trying to move him to Orlando.
do you think Diener would fit in with the suns style of game? All i know about him is thats hes a short guard( 1, 2, or both?) who works his ass off.

Don't do this crappy trade
I'm sure Sarver thinks Diener's contract fits right into the team. He makes $664,000 this year and has no future years. I know Sarver wants to get rid of Banks' longer, more expensive, contract seeing as he's just sitting on the bench. The Suns are over the luxury tax next year once Barbosa and Diaw's new contracts kick in, so the Suns are going to need to move some bodies this year for some expiring contracts, and if they can play come playoff time, even better.
<div class="quote_poster">TheHighness Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I would do it if they throw in there late 1st round pick</div> Considering Diener was drafted in the second round and he is unproven, I doubt they would even consider adding a pick into the deal. Marcus Banks has just been disappointing this season and I wouldn't want to give up Diener for him. I trust Travis running the offense more than I do Arroyo and he is extremely cheap. Otis has said that he wants to lock up Diener this summer so I can't see us moving him without getting a good player in return. If this deal was Carlos Arroyo for Marcus Banks I'd say yes in a heartbeat though. We're stacked at the point guard position and Carlos needs to be moved. I give him to anyone that is willing to take him off of our hands because I'm sick of his shoot first mentality and it would give Diener a chance to actually get some playing time.
