Ref should have called a foul on Kobe. And what does Gino touching him in the head have to do with anything? I can't even tell from that crappy video, but even if he did....... are you saying that is reason enough for kobe swipe him across the face full force? Anyways, I think even if Kobe commited murder, you would find some way to say that it was on accident. Regardless of his intentions, Kobe DID flop, he DID flail arms mindlessly, and it resulted in a hard hit to Ginobilis face. His arms didn't even come down, they flung perpendicular to his shot, right into ginobilis face. He had NO reason to do that. I'd suspend him for a day just for that. I'm sick of seeing these all-stars throw their arms and their bodies around flopping. (and that goes for plenty more than just kobe.)

There's been plenty of instances of this happening in the past without any suspensions handed out. The league has been far, too inconsistent on their judgement in handing out suspensions. If they didn't find it reasonable to suspend prior instances, why now? <div class="quote_poster">Quoting marbire:</div><div class="quote_post">Anyways, I think even if Kobe commited murder, you would find some way to say that it was on accident. </div> No need for this. Obviously this ruling is debatable, there's no need to throw out an over exaggerated scenario. I underlined regardless of his intentions, because there's no evidence Kobe intentionally hit Gino in the face. It's speculation, and when the league starts handing out suspensions based on speculation rather than fact, then it loses control. Unlike last year when Kobe hit Mike Miller and then admitted he did it on purpose in the post game, he apologized to Gino because it was an accident. Last year he got 2 games for the hit, and the remarks. I felt he should have received more, because of his remarks after the game and not showing any remorse.
Completely unintentional and a horrible decision in suspending Kobe. I blame Stern for this because its his stricter rules that are resulting in BS decisions for players.
This is ridiculous. Suspending for this ? Man, I wanna see the game when Kobe returns. He can be DETERMINED and angry. Still, now we can show to the NBA our solid role players and how can Lamar lead this team. I believe that without Kobe on the floor, Vujacic, Radman and others are not so nervous when shooting shots so we can still easily win this game. GO LAKERS !
Marbire, just stop, it's clear you have a bias against Kobe. Every single one of your arguments has been sufficiently countered by Shapecity. Your argument reeks of personal vendetta against Kobe. The act was, at best, questionable, no way in hell it deserved a suspension. This is just one more example of the league trying too hard chasing ghosts, this will only end up distancing fans (especially in NY) and leaving bad tastes in their mouths.
So Kobe can get raped driving to the hoop constantly, but he unintentionally (stated by both Pop and Manu) hits Ginobili in the face and he's suspended? I'm not too worried, it's against the lowly Knicks (jk). Unleash the beast we call Bynum!
Honestly, like Shape, you have to feel bad for the people attending the game. Laker fans who travel all the way there and adjust their schedules plus pay a high price for tickets won't be able to see their favorite team play with it's best player on the court.
Kobe has a bit of a history of elbowing/shoving opposing players away to create room for himself or send them a message. That probably played into this decision.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">NEW YORK (AP) -- Kobe Bryant requested an "immediate hearing" with the NBA office to discuss the one-game suspension he was given earlier Tuesday for striking San Antonio's Manu Ginobili in the face. Bryant was to miss Tuesday's game against the New York Knicks, leaving the Lakers without their leading scorer when they opened an eight-game road trip. However, since Bryant was already in New York, he was still hoping for a chance to play. "I've been waiting to play here, it's always been a fun place for me to play here, and I'm surprised. Shocked, by it, actually," Bryant said. "I unintentionally caught Manu Ginobili. What do you say, it's a basketball game. You unintentionally catch people with elbows every once in a while." Players association spokesman Dan Wasserman said a letter was sent on Bryant's behalf to the league office requesting the hearing, and that Bryant volunteered to review the videotape and talk to commissioner David Stern or the "appropriate league official." </div> Source
Kobe has more than enough body control to not let his arm sweep across Manu like that. seems hard to tell if it was intentional or not but my opinion is it looks like a sneaky shot
kg throwas a puch and the ball and gets suspended for one game and kobe accedently hits manu in his face and gets a game Wow this league is filled with a bunch of kobe-haters
Well of course anyone who says it was not an accident is gonna get raped cause its in a Laker forum. but yes thats bullshit, a natural arm reaction does not include swooping down straight to your side after you shoot. Check videos of him shooting wide open jumpers and see if his right arm always comes flying down to his right. If it was an accident why did he immediatly walk away and not even look to see what he did hmmm? Don't know if it deserved a suspension but he knew what he was doing and thats that.

In OT he went over to Tim and Manu to check out what happened.

ginobili is a floppy euro with no skill, the only way he gets looks is becuase he has Timmy D and Tpizzle on his team, all he has is a decent jumpshot. Im a bit undecided on this though, i dont think that i can have much of an objective opinion on this because how much i hate ginobili and how much i love the lakers, but a suspension is going to far, i think the league is in line for a new boss, because stern obviously cannot do the job right, all he has done is cause problems for the real players and fans.

LMAO, the guy can shoot, put it on the floor, split double teams and use both hands. he's one of the most creative scorers in the league. Ginobili is from Argentina which is a long way from Europe, Einstein. you said it with your lack of "objectivity", try lack of "intelligence" as well.
I just find it interesting for people saying Kobe did it on purpose and knew what he was doing, when the person he hit, Gino, and the Spurs coach, Popovich both agreed it was just an accident. If it didn't bother the person who was hit, why should it even be brought up?
This is just ridiculous. Does the NBA have some hidden agenda against Kobe Bryant? I don't think Kobe's hit was intentional, and even if it was, the league doesn't have enough evidence to suspend him for one game. Your f*cking kidding me. So Bruce Bowen can get away with trying to injure players by putting his feet under the shooter, and Kobe can't even get a benefit of the doubt? Ridiculous
