Carlos Powell is an American playing in the NBL in Australia and if Brad Newly is going to be drafted, I don't see why Powell shouldn't either.

He is a 6'7 forward an apparently when Jerry West (yes, THE Jerry West) was asked whether Powell played inside or outside West said something along the lines of: "either way, he can play". Australian coach Brian Goorjian said that Powell was the best player in the league at the moment and I can beleive that.

He scores plenty of points, grabs lots of rebounds (8 rpg) and gets a few assists (4apg) too. 29 ppg is excellent in Australia where there is a more team game played and the best scorers are in the low to mid 20s. I've only seen him play once and he scored 50. 50 doesn't happen much in the NBL, only twice this year and only a couple of 40s too, so that perhaps shows how good he is. In that 50 game he also pulled in 9 rebounds and dished out 8 assists. He was just everywhere and dominated the game.

Powell will be 24 when season 2007/08 starts, so he isn't old. Newly was recently spoken of as one of the top 60 players in the world not to be in the NBA and he certainly is good, but I'd have to say Powell is better, so a good chance of being drafted.

What I really want to know is what do others know/think about him.

He already entered the draft man, this guy was on South Carolina, so he'd need to be invited to camp......

Carlos Powell deserves to make it to a training camp, he plays hard and is quite possibly the best player in the NBL. He scores, rebounds and brings energy. After playing with the Breakers, Rich Melzer made it on to the Spurs preseason roster. If Melzer can make it to a preseason roster, Powell definitely can.

    K, didn't realise that.

Can a player go in the draft a second time if he choses?

Also, could Powell be picked up halfway through a season (ie. now if a team wanted him) or does he have to wait until the off season

The Breakers season is over soon, and Powell isn't coming back. He was interviewed after the latest home game, and when asked if he wanted to go to the NBA or Europe, he didn't hesitate to say NBA. As he has declared for the draft in the past, when his contract with the Breakers is up, he's a free agent hoping to get signed by an NBA team.
