If you could mold any 2 teams out of all the players in NCAA to play against each other who would be on them and why? Then tell who you think would win.

Also if you want, create your "Perfect College Team" with basically who you feel are the best mix of 5 starters.

I'd like to see.....
The main reason why I would love to see this is to get a better look at Aaron Brooks and Dominick James who don't get too much TV time. Especially with Brooks distributing it to a shooter like Chris Lofton and an all around great player like Tucker. Very good downlow with Noah and Boggan. Boggan would take up the stronger player and Noah takes the less strong player.

Shan Foster is one of the most underrated players in NCAA and he has stepped up big getting Vandy into the Top 25. Throw in the Horford/Noah matchup and Big Baby and Boggan and I think this would be a very good and entertaining match.

I like Team 2 in this one. I think Dominick James is the best PG in the nation(mainly cause I haven't been able to see much of Brooks). I like Horford in his matchup with Noah and Boggan/Big Baby would be a toss up. Tucker would beat Young and I would say that Lofton/Foster would be a toss up.

PG-Aaron Brooks-Oregon
SG-Chris Lofton-Tennessee
SF-Alando Tucker-Wisconsin
PF-Joakim Noah-Florida
C-Mario Boggan-Ok State

PG-Dominick James-Marquette
SG-Shan Foster-Vandy
SF-Nick Young-USC
PF-Al Horford-Florida
C-Glen Davis-LSU

My dream team would be....
PG-DJ Augustin-The distributor. He will get the ball into the playmakers hands.
SG-Chris Lofton-The shooter. He will shoot lights out.
SF-Corey Brewer-The lockdown defender that is a tough matchup on offense.
PF-Al Horford-The all around big guy. Great defense, great basketball IQ and is very good with the ball in his hands.
C-Aaron Gray-Big C that will help take some pressure off of Horford. Big target downlow.

As has been discussed before, I wouldn't play the role of Jim Calhoun or Rick Pitino, taking the most talented guys regardless of their intangibles or how they fit the system. Call me a homer, but I'm like Bo Ryan - I want guys who will work together.

With that in mind, these are my two teams (I made an effort to get guys who were not all top recruits, and there's a mix of veterans and underclassmen, just like a real college team)

EDIT: Figured I'd give a mini-scouting report and explanation of why I like these guys and how they'd fit in my team.

PG Drew Neitzel - Michigan State - I've been all over this guy since I saw his last high school game, when he torched a team with Joe Crawford and Malik Hairston for 36 points in a gutty, losing effort. He's a cold as ice three point shooter, and has developed a nice dribble drive game to keep defenses honest. He's also a tremendous ballhandler who is one of the few guys out there who can distribute nicely to his teammates while also scoring big. I think he's a future All-American and one of my favorite players in the game today.

SG Michael Flowers - Wisconsin - My lone homer pick. I couldn't pick a team without my favorite Badger. Flowers doesn't need to score big very often for Bucky, but has surprised everyone this year by showing an ability to get to the rim and knock down the open jumper. He's also a skilled playmaker who takes care of the ball. I think he's the best perimeter defender in the country (apologies to Corey Brewe and a few others), with unrivaled anticipation and positioning. This is the consummate glue guy.

SF Frank Young - West Virginia - I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Frank Young is a bad mother. He's become a dangerous outside shooter, and is getting the chance to show his slashing ability this seaosn. Young is one of those guys who always seems to have just what his team needs - a dagger 3, breakout dunk, or defensive stop. He's just a guy that once you've seen him play, he sticks in your mind for all the right reasons.

PF Grant Stout - Northern Iowa - America, meet Mr. Wilkinson's younger twin brother, seperated at birth...if that makes any sense. Stout is a tenacious defender and rebounder, and has a diverse offensive game that sets him apart from most top bigs. With a reliable shot that ranges to the three point arc, Stout knows how to free himself up inside by hurting opponents from the outside. Once in the paint, he shows tremendous footwork and strength, and also knows how to find open teammates on the wing. Not the most athletic guy, he more than compensates for it with his smarts and crafty ability to make plays.

C Kyle Jeffers - Oregon State - This team doesn't need a big-time center, but it does need a guy who will get the tough rebounds, make opponents shy of entering the paint, and knock down the open shot. Jeffers is that man. Not the biggest 5 man around, he's nonetheless stout at 6'9", 258. He's also become a consistent shot blocker, and uses good positioning on defense and getting rebounds. Jeffers is nothing special, but I want a guy like him on this team. With he and Stout, I think my team would have the tenacity and hustle that I want out of my bigs.

...

PG Derrick Low
- Wazzou - Low is pretty much a poor man's Neitzel, but is becoming a richer version every day. Another guy I've liked for a long time.

SG Dominique Kirk - Texas A&M - Similar to Flowers, with a tremendously versatile game. Also a defensive stopper.

SF Justin Cage - Xavier - A little bit of everything, and can play any style. Tough and clever.

PF Geoff McDermott - Providence - Great all-around player who reminds me of Georgetown's Jeff Green. Would be my pet project to improve his defense.

C Aleks Maric - Nebraska - The nation's most unheralded big. Maric can go for 20+ every night and thrives scoring in the paint. He's 6'11", 265 and uses that to his advantage on both ends of the floor.

...

Just for time's sake, I'll use the same bench for both teams (all of these guys come off the bench for their respective teams).

G Gal Mekel - Wichita State - Could've played pro ball in his native Isreal, but has instead been a good deep shooter and playmaker for the Shockers.

G Jason Okrzesik - Northwestern - Little bit of everything hustle player. Not a true point, but makes plays and has good basketball IQ.

G/F Danny Brown - Saint Louis - Sometimes needs too many shots to get his points, but can score and I need a slasher on my bench.

F Tony Boyle - Southern Illinois - A very poor man's Stout, but could improve as he gains experience. Just a guy who I think could eventually do big things.

C Brian Carlwell - Illinois - I had the misfortune of playing a pickup game against this guy two years ago, and I'd be shocked if he doesn't develop into a very useful big sooner than later.

I'd like to see those teams play a round robin......

I tried to make the team as even as I could and use the Schaddy approach with roles for each player.

I think Bo Ryan wants to give away Brian Butch already, doubt he'd take a whole new team with that bum! [IMG] I would be interested to see that first team in action with Bruce's motion offense, though.

Didn't know that, I thought he'd better with scrappy players like Diamon Simpson, Heath, and Pargo but I don't know much about Butch except he has that great range for a big.

Here's the book on Butch

The good: He does have tremendous shooting range - he's more than capable of canning multiple 3's in a game. He has good footwork and is a relatively crafty player. He knows how to position himself for rebounds, and occasionally can make slick moves in the paint.

The bad: He lacks athleticism, is maddeningly inconsistent, and disappears against highly physical players. What's truly bizarre, though, is that he has shown flashes of being able to dominate against teams with good interior defenders, like Pitt, but is capable of going scoreless against a team like Gardiner-Webb. He's just a true mystery.

My biggest thing with Butch is this: he was a McDonald's All-American, and those type of kids don't come to Madison often. He was expected to come in and take the mantle from Mike Wilkinson (the consummate blue-collar hero in Wisconsin). Instead, fair or not, he's been labeled a disappointment. And every time he pulls a stunt like tonight (3 points in a close loss - if he'd have scored is average of 10 ppg, we'd have won the game by 2 points [IMG] ), which happens all too often, my contempt for him grows.

Which center that's around Brian Butch's skill level would fit better their then? Kyle Visser?

Hmm...there aren't many true centers with his skills, but I wouldn't say he's a true 5, either. Here are some players I'd say have similar styles and more production than Butch. I actually think Andrew Brackman, who quit playing hoops for NC State to focus on baseball, was the most similar player to Butch.

Justin Doellman - Xavier

Jason Smith - Colorado State

Rob Kurz - Notre Dame

That kid the Buckeyes are bringing in next year, Kostya Koufos (sp?), is a similar player. I'm interested to see how he does in the Big 10 given Butch's shortcomings.
