<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In the wake of recent incidents, the NBA has decided to crack down on unruly behavior among its players. It will no longer tolerate any punching, kicking or other overt signs of fighting. More severe penalties will be handed down in order to send a message to fans that such actions are not in the best interests of the great game of basketball. In fact, the league has decided to reinforce that message with even more restrictions: No NBA player shall ? in the course of a game or outside the playing surface, or for that matter within the borders of the contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii and all U.S. territories and possessions, and Canada, and any other country that hosts an NBA-sanctioned event, or televises one, or advertises one, or thinks about one ? slap, bump, nudge, poke, grab, brush up against, muss the hair of, jostle, disturb, annoy, tickle, give a wedgie to, insult by word or action, lean against, invade the space of, breathe on, expectorate near, or otherwise ruin the vibe of another NBA player. In fact, even a handshake or a caress that isn?t followed by a big smile can draw a fine. This is not the official NBA by-law on the topic, however, merely a suggestion for an early draft. And I would venture to guess that the finished version won?t stray too much from the wording and the spirit of the aforementioned passage, given the direction the league seems to be going on this. The latest indication that the league office has gone to the mattresses on the issue of player-generated aggression is the one-game suspension handed to Kobe Bryant on Monday for slapping San Antonio?s Manu Ginobili with his arm during their game Sunday at Staples Center. The shock is that commissioner David Stern didn?t order a SWAT team to perform a pre-dawn raid on Kobe?s house.</div> Source But the dopey decision to suspend Kobe Bryant over a trifle transfers the league?s image problem from the court to the offices on Fifth Avenue. Now the players aren?t making the NBA look bad, the NBA is making its players look bad.
Great read. I'm not arguing the suspension because it's Bryant, hell it could've been Ray Allen who I absolutely despise and I would have argued it. David Stern is a joke.

I'm not allowed to dislike a player? I know he's a great player and a class act, I just not a fan of his game or him. Same goes for Duncan and Nash. All three are great players and class acts, I'm just not a fan of their game.

Never been a fan of him, I prefer Kidd. I just get sick of having him forced down my throat as the best point guard.
i feel like going on a david stern rant. we all know the facts, the new rule's, the Nazi-ism, stern can go die in a hole because the world does not need another corporate dictator who cannot be controlled, he is on a massive power trip and he has strategically positioned himself over several years, so that he cant be stopped and he can do whatever he wants to do, even if it means losing the real basketball fans, just to make money off the robotic white america culture that will pay extreme amounts of cash so that they can follow the crowd. There should be a players union developed and democracy put in place that would allow the players more freedom and control over the great style of basketball that is the nba. I think once david stern is removed and replaced by a more humane and more reasonable person, the nba will enter a great great stage in its history. Stern is holding everything back and packing it all into a box, but one day there will be no more room to hide things away from corporate america and the box will explode and everything will fly out, and emotions will be high. stern doesnt realize this because because he's blinded by the money and the power.

I have absolutely no respect left for the NBA and it's officials. This is just getting stupid, I'm considering to just stop watching, because it's simply not fun anymore. With all the high paced fast scoring action, all I can think of while watching a game is how stupid Stern is.

In your previous post you said you "absolutely desipise him." That's different. You don't have to like the guy, I'm not saying that. Was just wondering how someone could despise him... that's all.
I think Ray Allen said something negative about Kobe a while back. That might have something to do with it.

I'll see if I can find one. It was pretty similar to Kobe, except that Lebron was going for the steal and unintentionally clotheslined Wade. The refs gave him a flagrant. I probably wouldn't give him a suspension, but he deserves 5 games when compared to the reaction to Kobe elbow. Also, what I'm more annoyed with is not the constant rules that the NBA keeps coming up with, but the utter uselessness of them. If you remember in the offseason, the 3 major changes were a crackdown on player complaints, a stricter enforcement of the jerseys, and the introduction of a new ball. We're halfway through the season now and what has happened with all those changes? After going overboard in the first couple of weeks, the stricter attitude towards complaining has slowly become irrelevant. Star players will whine their asses off and very rarely, we'll see the refs throw out a tech on a star player. With the jerseys, it was a minor change but like the complaining rule, its been forgotten. I see players looking pretty disorganized with half their jersey sticking out sometimes. And, as we all know, the new ball has been an embarrassment. These all seem to say that the NBA has been implementing rules and changes that really don't address the major problems with the game: the unequal officiating and lack of consistency.
