    Same.

John Amechi was never regarded as a good player, so it still does not really pave the way for NBA players in the closet. If someone with star status came out, like Sheryl Swoopsin the WNBA, then it would be a different story.

Gasol looks pretty gay to me. Could be his Euro atmosphere though. Some people are pretty fruity over there.

[IMG] There was a gay guy on my high school football team for a year. He wasn't all that good, but we knew it, he didn't care, most of us didn't either.

Yeah it could go either way, but there has to be a reason more players don't come out. I'm sure they hear derogatory comments in the locker room and feel uncomfortable making it known they're gay. There's a lot of religious players in the league, who simply don't except homosexuals because of the teachings of the bible.

    Isn't Christian Lattner gay?

Btw Bobcats, RJ didn't say he was gay. And maybe it isn't him, maybe it's someone else.

Christian Laettner, Derek Fisher, and Kris Humphries are the players I've heard most of the rumors about.

    But then again.... I don't give a ****.

Dont ask me why, but this had me in tears for some reason.

I think Chris Anderson could be gay, at least a closeted EMO.

Who it is makes no difference to me,'" Amaechi wrote. "I was hosting my own party that night, so I had to decline his sweet invitation. But I was moved. You have to respect the fact Amaechi isn't trying to force his lifestyle on anyone. He's not trying to make a quick buck by naming other players, he just wants to tell his story. I'm sure it was theraputic for him to write this book, best of luck to him.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LeBron James, however, said he didn't think an openly gay person could survive in the league.

"With teammates you have to be trustworthy, and if you're gay and you're not admitting that you are, then you are not trustworthy," James said. "So that's like the No. 1 thing as teammates -- we all trust each other. You've heard of the in-room, locker room code. What happens in the locker room stays in there. It's a trust factor, honestly. A big trust factor."</div>

What exactly is Lebron saying here? So if you are openly gay, you can't survive in the NBA. Then he says if you are gay but no one knows, you can't survive either. I doubt hiding your sexuality would change how trustworthy a player can be on the basketball court.

    Lol @ randolphs comment.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"For real? He's gay for real?" said Philadelphia center Steven Hunter. "Nowadays it's proven that people can live double lives. I watch a lot of TV, so I see a lot of sick perverted stuff about married men running around with gay guys and all types of foolishness." </div>

Oh so gay/bi men cheating on their wives with other men is sick and perverted. I wonder if he would describe straight men cheating on their wives as sick and perverted also?

Steven Hunter is clearly a fan of R. Kelly's "Keep it in the closet" series. [IMG]

LeBron's comments don't make any sense either. Unless he meant, it's ok to be honest about being gay in the team locker room, but outside of it, a gay player wouldn't survive? [IMG]

Each individual player, coach, etc that has some problem with the man being gay has lost any and all respect from me. Time to grow up kids of the NBA, just because the man is gay doesn't mean you have to be frightened he's going to come after a piece of your ass. That's how it seems some take the situation, as do many people that are homophobic.

It is amazing that this information comes out only when someone is promoting a book.

Kind of reminds me of when Pete Rose admitted to gambling on baseball in his book as well.

It doesn't surprise me that John Amaechi is gay and I could really care less that he is. If he wanted to be a spokesman for the gay athletic community he would have come out when he was playing--especially when he put up serviceable numbers in Orlando. To be honest I was more surprised that he was studying to get his PhD when he was still in the NBA than I am that he is gay -- or the fact that he turned down a multi year lucrative contract to play in L.A. so he can stay in Orlando on a team that he felt "comfortable with" on a short term contract.

If Amaechi wasn't going to profit from his "coming out" I would be more inclined to be sympathetic to his plight. I personally wouldn't want to have a gay teammate but to each his own. Just don't try to get me to buy a book in the process.

The point is this, a gay guy is still a man. I know how men are. If I was showering with a locker room full of naked women I would have thoughts about hooking up with one (at the very least). Being a man im sure he was attacted physically to at least 1 of the guys on the roster.

No guy wants another guy looking at them in a sexual way. Its simply creepy.
