Sam has done a great job this year, and he's deserving, but not as deserving as Jeff Van Gundy. JVG has done a great job in Houston. They're one of the top teams in the west, and most of the season without Yao.

I love it how when the Raps were losing, Mitchell defenders were pleading that we shouldn't judge him based on our record. However, now that we're winning, everyone suddenly wants to give him credit.

I think Sam is a good enough coach to make us a decent team. But if we want to make that next leap, we need to go with a more strategy minded coach who's able to go head to head with the Sloan's and the Popovich's of this league.

Its not a matter of judging him on his record - -its a matter of judging him on the players he has had to work with.

^ well judging him by the players at his disposal: we were losing last season b/c he had a crappy bunch... now he's given a more talented and deeper team so it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that we're hovering around .500. So if we were told to lay off the Mitchell criticisms b/c the talent wasn't there for the past two seasons, then it's absurd to suddenly give him credit when we actually do get the talent.

Don't get me wrong though, I think he's a decent coach who excels at motivating his troops, but naming him COY is pushing it. I think that guys like Barkley are proclaiming him COY mainly because they underestimate the talent level that this team actually has.
