<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ORLANDO - If there are NBA teams in search of expiring contracts with which they can clear salary-cap dollars and rebuild their rosters, they haven't approached Orlando general manager Otis Smith about Grant Hill yet. Hill is in the final season of his seven-year, $92.88 million with the Magic and is making $16.9 million this season. Such contracts often hold great value around the NBA because they allow struggling teams to gut their rosters of high-priced players and start anew. If a team was to show interest in acquiring Hill's expiring contract before the Feb. 22 trade deadline it would have to send back at least $12 million in salaries. All-star players Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Paul Gasol, Rashard Lewis would certainly attract the Magic's interest if their struggling teams start the rebuilding process. However, Smith says no team around the league has shown an interest in acquiring Hill's expiring deal. And he added that the Magic aren't shopping Hill. "At this point I have not gotten any phone calls as it relates to expiring contracts, Grant Hill in particular," Smith said. "It just hasn't happened. Whether there's a market for it or not or teams are just waiting to do whatever they are going to do, I just haven't gotten any calls about (Hill's contract)."</div> If he's telling the truth about not wanting to shop Hill. Its big relief IMO, i dont want someone like Vince Carter to come waltzing in and stunting Dwight's potential. I want Grant resign next season, he needs too... HE HAS TOO LINK- http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives..._expiring_deal/
Bit of a let down imo. He was a big trade piece of ours, a type of trump card. It is his last season too, so he could have just resigned with us when the season ended.
He always declines stuff like this when a trade is getting ready to go down. So who knows, maybe we are really close to pulling off a deal.
Yea, this is how Otis works. You tell everyone that no one is calling and all of a sudden everyone is calling to see what it would take. Also you make it known he isnt gonna be moved, other teams will have to step up offers to pry him away... Otis knows what he is doing..
