Apparently Scotty just got traded to the grizzlies for Tsakalidis ............ http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4551150.html I hate to see him go, I've been a fan since his Kentucky days....
Umm, pretty much a very unimportant deal, but Tsakilidis is an upgrade over Padgett. With Yao out, Tsaklidis will provide a backup to Mutombo to keep Deke fresh for the playoffs, and the Rockets get to give Steve Novak more playing time, not to mention use a trade exception which would have gone to waste otherwise. Good deal.
<div class="quote_poster">Smitty Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">What a random trade..lol. I liked Padgett on the Rockets though.</div> Very random indeed. This trade just reminded me that the Grizz have 6 million dollars a year in Cardinal rotting on their bench.
Does anyone know if the Rockets used their trade exception in this deal? It is a random trade at face value, but maybe Yao's injury is worse than the team is leading on?
I'm pretty certain they used it. The problem isnt with Yao, its with Mutumbo. Mutumbo is playing with an injury (tendonitis, I believe). They want to limit the minutes Mutumbo has to play.
Interesting, to say the least. We don't use our TE, and take care of our gap at the C spot (after Mutombo). I don't think we will be making any other moves. Oh wait, I think we did use our TE. Padgett only makes 1mil, whle J-Tsak makes 2.9mil and both contracts expire this season. How did this trade go down? Anyone know? I thought you couldn't combine a player with the TE. EDIT: Oh, Memphis had a TE and we exchanged TEs. So when does there's expire? (well ours) Does it renew?

We pick up Tsak and release Padgett, then they pick up Padgett using their TE.
The Rockets don't want to waste their TE so they swap with Grizzlies' own TE. The Rockets had an insurance with Tsakalidis just in case Deke's knees won't hold on especially with Yao still weeks away from coming back. I would have wanted a better player but it so happen that it was a last minute move that's like a take it or leave it deal.
It's a good deal all round. Jake was useless to us, but he'll see some ok minutes in Houston. Happy enough to have Padgett on the end of the bench instead of Jake.
Oh I see maybe the Rockets want to give VSpan a comrade. Like VSpan, Tsakalidis has also a Greek Nationality. Billy would be so happy about this.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">What a worthless trade to say the least. They both don't do much but I wish them the best.</div> Not really. We're going to need Mutombo fresh for the playoffs to help backup Yao, and before after Mutombo, we really didn't have a legit center. With Tsakalidis, at least we have a big guy to spell him so he won't have to play as much minutes. Meanwhile, Padgett was pretty expendable to us since we already have Novak. Their games are very similar.
For those who really want to know... They're actually 2 separate deals. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Because the salaries do not match, the Rockets used $2.9 million of the trade exception acquired last season to get Tsakalidis, who is signed through the remainder of the season. Padgett was technically traded separately in a minimum-contract deal.</div> http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports...kn/4552124.html
