Yeah, the guy is pretty disruptive on the floor, but he does rebound well and defend decently. But as long as this guy doesn't get re-signed for huge bucks like TM and MDJ (Fisher/Foyle) did, I'll be good. I'd rather find a smarter player though...

Our gms have made some of the worst FA signings that I'm scared to believe we could actually go forward, get more talented, and make the 3-year roadmap budget. 2004 had to be the lamest offseason attempt at building a "playoff team" ever. And then he goes and signs MDJ when he hadn't proved jack. Which brings us to where we are now... having to make a move to clear money (Utah, Indy trade).

Cut him is extreme, but he should know his role. I think he's a nice fit on this team...he finishes and shoots well, but when he tries dribbling into the hole, and does that spin move it kills me.

Barnes has really been pissing me off as well. He wasn't quite as bad tonight, I think he had a bit of a wake up call again when Nellie didn't play him for the first 15ish minutes of the game. He could actually be cut, or put in IR because POB was in The Oracle last night and if he impresses the coaching staff during the break here then he'll surely be put on the roster while someone else is deactivated. JRich and Pietrus are coming back too and Azubuike has been pretty awesome so Barnes definitely has to step up.

He is, however, rebounding very well lately and even coming up big on a lot of defensive plays. Fitz actually mentioned that Nellie cussed him out for not being aggressive so who knows. I think Nellie is in love with Barnes though; the guy can shoot damn well (when hes taking good shots) finish, run like a deer, push the break, defend, rebound, block a few shots, get steals, defend on big men. He's like a homeless man's Shawn Marion but even Marion knows he cant create jack for himself offensively.

Barnes is a good guy. Saw him in the bar after Friday nights game and he was willingly taking pictures with some girls. Tells me something about the guy. I don't think he's got a big head. His shot selection is poor at times but he finishes very well and can play D on bigger guys while getting out on the break. He's too casual at times but for a FA pickup he's been found money.

i was kidding about the cut him. I think he is fine if his role is getting about ten minutes a game, not asking him to be the point guard, create for himself or be a volume scorer, but just asking him to hustle. I disagree that his defense is good, i think he is soft and typically gets worked. But he does hustle and get after the loose ball. I think in a limited role his errors will be limited and poor decision making and what he can bring, energy will be maximized.

That said...i think AZ brings everything that barnes can bring.... and he can board as well, but he plays with a cooler head, and fits into the offense as opposed to trying to be the man as barnes does. I think Az is a more complete player than BArnes and offers more to the team.

I also agree that Nelson has Barnes as his pet, unfortunately it is similar to how Monty loved Fisher...... no matter how detrimental to the team these guys play they seem to get a bit of favoritism and forgiveness..

The question i have is.... who is more consistent.... barnes with his soft and one fouls.... i think it is like 7 games in a row now that he has given the soft 3 pointer in a game or harrington getting called for a travelling call.... start calling him curly cause he shuffles his feet more than any player i have seen.

Barnes freaky 3 pt % has come back to pretty average, but the thing is-he's getting crapped on here when his total game last night was pretty much equal to Q Rich's game...but at about 15% of the price tag. We have a few (maybe a lot? ) of guys who hustle, take risks..often take too much risk. A coach has a fine line. Hustle is good and progress is often measured by how you make the difficult stuff succeed. Barnes ups and downs are part of the strong/weak parts of Nellyball, push the pace, shoot the 3,gamble on the steal.

Barnes has in a half season gone from scrap heap to part-time starter. Azu has made similar progress. Pietrus had few starts until this year. It's too early to say who we CAN keep, the FA market can snatch away someone no matter our plans. All 3 of these guys made some damn good progress in a half year and will make more.

Basically....the Knicks just sucked and we did lapse into "Garbage Time" a bit too early.
