I don't know what else you call a squad that loses by 20 to a team that had previously lost 18 f***ing games in a row. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Boston Celtics ended their franchise-record losing streak at 18 games on Wednesday night, getting 32 points from Paul Pierce and 21 from Gerald Green to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 117-97. The crowd gave the Celtics a standing ovation for the final minute as they picked up their first victory since Jan. 5, winning just two of 24 games when Pierce was out with foot and elbow injuries. The NBA's most decorated franchise long ago broke the team record of 13 straight losses and seemed destined for the league record of 24 (23 in one season). After the Bucks, Boston was headed on a five-game, seven-day road trip against teams that promised a tougher test than Milwaukee. But, with a half-filled house winnowed by the winter's first big snowstorm, the Celtics took advantage of the Bucks' own woes and rallied from a 15-point, second-quarter deficit to take the lead. Mo Williams scored 31, Charlie Bell had 24 and Brian Skinner scored 13 with 11 rebounds for Milwaukee, which lost its fourth straight.</div> http://www.cbs.sportsline.com/nba/gamecent...0070214_MIL@BOS
C'mon...The bucks were playing back to back without their superstar. What else do ya expect? The Celts just got lucky.
I feel it They were playing without Redd, and Pierce was just not going to let this losing streak continue. It hurts, but ironically it just a matter of how the injury situation played odd. Don't stress it too much.
I was seriously expecting Stotts to be shown the door after the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. Herb Kohl must really love this guy. There has to be more to it though. Maybe Terry saved one of Herb’s kids from drowning once? Anyway, I agree that the Bucks are the worst team. Even with Mike Redd, they have no offensive sets and their defense is non existent. Amazingly, they play basketball like if they were just a bunch of guys that met up at a park to play 5 on 5. They don’t utilize their talented big men well, and the guards dribble around aimlessly. With that said, I can’t wait till Redd comes back. They might go on a winning streak since their schedule’s so soft after the break.
^ Well put. With Mike Redd in fold, I don't think we're the worst team. But without him, and especially on that night, jeez, you coulda made one heck of a case that they are. The defense is the most frustrating thing, to me. Even with Redd, it's atrocious. And I still often wonder how bad things would be if we hadn't gambled on picking up Ruben Patterson this season - he's so far and away teh best defender we've got, it's not even funny. Charlie Bell is good defensively, but even he's gotten a bit lazy, I'd say. It's pretty obvious to me that this Bucks team has completely tuned out Stotts as a coach. They get routinely embarassed by bad teams, but they do things like play the Mavs right down to the wire. I complained about this a few weeks ago, too - I think that the inmates are running the asylum; they only show up when they want to, namely against the best teams (we hung with Phoenix, won @ Lakers, etc, but get destroyed by the Celtics... ) This team has so many problems right now that even a healthy and productive Redd isn't going to help us sniff the postseason. There was a week, week and a half stretch there when everyone was healthy, and we played excellent basketball. It was Stotts-ball, but hey, we were winning. With the injuries, we've been exposed. When we aren't hitting on all cylinders, we just can't compete, because Stotts refuses to adapt our style to our lack of personnel, and defense simply doesn't appear to be a priority of his. I am anxious to see Redd out there again, because the only thing this Bucks team has to look forward to is pride...and maybe a couple lucky bounces in the Draft Lottery As to Herb Kohl's influence on Stotts, I think it's actually Larry Harris's problem. Stotts has long been his guy, and I think Kohl is pretty much oblivious outside of roster decisions. Otherwise he'd have said enough is enough by now - I mean, sit anybody down and ask them to explain why we're so god-awful right now, and they'd say lack of D and the coach. I've got to think that Harris is the only reason Stotts is still around, so maybe both of them have to go I'm still mad about that Dez Mason trade, Larry LOL
