<div class="quote_poster">Carter Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Great post. Agree completely, but he did say he didn't give them a 100 percent every game which might of made the fans pissed.</div> Yeah I think he admitted that. It just doesn't seem reasonable to boo him constantly after he's been gone a couple of years now. Who knows how long it's gonna go on for.
who cares now as much as i love vince carter i have to admit that his career was a disappointment...he was gonna be really great from wat we saw in his early years
You have to realize the sports scene in Toronto to understand why fans hate him so much. It's a hockey town, first and foremost. Everything tends to gravitate around the Leafs, and people expect the type of grittiness and intensity that hockey players bring to the game. I suppose that's a bit unfair, considering they're completely different sports, but it's just the reality of it. The second part is that it has a little bit of an inferiority complex. Toronto's the biggest city in Canada and doesn't fit in anywhere (too American for the rest of Canada, too Canadian for the US). The Raptors established a certain respect throughout North America that hadn't existed for a non-hockey franchise, since the Jays won the World Series. It may be hard to believe now, but people in this city defended him so strongly when he was a bit of a joke to the rest of the league (injury after injury). I'm talking over-the-top homerism that would defend his lack of leadership, his injury problems, his demands on the ownership, his lack of conditioning in the offseason, and his refusal to drive/dunk when he recovered. When he pulled that stunt in '05, secretly wanting to be traded and half-assing it for half the season, it was pretty much the last straw. Chris Bosh's development, after VC was traded, and the intensity and dedication he's shown have provided a big contrast that only furthers the criticism. I personally don't think the fans should have to stop booing. I mean, LA fans probably haven't forgiven Shaq even though the Lakers have started to turn the corner. There are numerous examples. It's really surprising to see how much support he had back in the day, considering he was about as far from a hockey player as you could get, but the dude had the benefit of the doubt for so long. I personally have forgiven him (the ownership had a huge role in his departure), but the fanbase has the right to look at him as a sort of common enemy. The only thing that pisses me off is the media (particularly the broadcasters owned by MLSE) completely contradicting themselves to bash Carter. Fans will hate who they want to, but reporters/journalists/commentators, etc. are paid money to try and get above all the emotions and provide an "enlightened" opinion.

Carter was very right about that.
No doubt. The chants started once at the end of a very spectacular game of his and I partially blame the Toronto media for actually taking it seriously and dwelving into the issue. I mean, he's having a great season but is so obviously not at an MVP-level. As for criticizing Carter about his comments, I don't really see the point. He was mutterring it to himself and, even if it does make him look like a jerk, it's not like he's wrong. I was more responding to the posters who didn't understand why Carter still gets booed so badly in Toronto.
You can't fault a guy for talking to himself. Had he said it the post-game interview or what not, then go ahead. I mean, how many of us whisper random crap to ourselves? Just let it go.
<div class="quote_poster">SoSoDef Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">bosh is the raptors MVP, so why can't toronto fans chant mvp?</div> When they chant "M-V-P" it seems like they are referring to the league in general, not just their own team.
i still don't see what the big deal is, he said are you kidding me to them saying mvp, why is this getting as big as a reaction as the tim hardway i hate gays comment

At one point, it was pretty close I spent a fair amount of time defending Carter back in the days.
Hey guys, Fans have the right to do what they want to at an NBA game. These league players are professional and should handle whatever criticisms or chants come their way during the course of a game. Will the fans who are not part of Toronto or Toronto fans calm down. We take offense to great players who have left the city on bad terms, ie Carter and McGrady and to some extent Mike James. We did not boo Doug Christie, oh, and also we did not boo Alonzo Mourning who clearly should have been booed, not reporting to Raptors training camp, because of SUPPOSED injury and then having the raptors pay him off so that he could end up playing for the Heat, winning the the NBA Championship the following year. What about his boos? No, Toronto did not do that. Every NBA team has history, and we only have that 'What have you done for me lately' mentality. LA was just as bad w/ Shaq and Toronto is just as bad w/ Carter. So get over the MVP chants and stop complaining and defending Carter on why he should not get booed, because that's the way how fans are. Hey, isn't that what good rivalries are all about? Here's another point, who was beloved in the T. Dot, Tie Domi and after that classless incident w/ his wife and Belinda Stronach, Toronto wants nothing to do w/ him. Learn your histories NBA Fans. We are all-sensitive and extremists. That's why we are fans.
^Actually LA cheered Shaq on his return, and Philly did the same for AI. Toronto is by far the worst city for it, mainly due to their retarded media.

If anything, it shows that Toronto fans are passionate about their team. I'd rather there be a reaction than none at all. You can't compare AI's and Shaq's situations to Vince's. They're different situations.
I really don't understand why Carter has to react like that. Sure Bosh isn't an MVP candidate, but there's no point of looking stupid. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he might be mad that he isn't getting that spotlight.
