<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Audioslave singer Chris Cornell has quit the short-lived "supergroup," citing "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences," he said on Thursday. Cornell, 42, who rose to fame with defunct Seattle rock group Soundgarden, will reignite his solo career with the May 1 release of "Carry On," his second solo album. "Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave. I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors," the part-time Paris restaurateur said in a statement. The Audioslave split was not unexpected. His colleagues, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk, have reunited with singer Zack de la Rocha to resurrect their former band Rage Against the Machine, which will play its first show in seven years at California's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 29. Rage's plans beyond this show are unknown. Audioslave formed in 2001, a year after Rage broke up, and recorded three studio albums. In May 2005, it became the first American band to play an outdoor show in Cuba. Its most recent album, "Revelations," has sold a disappointing 409,000 copies in the United States since its September 2006 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Its self-titled 2002 debut sold 3.1 million copies, and the 2005 follow-up "Out of Exile" 1.1 million. Amid rumors last August that Audioslave had broken up, Cornell told Reuters that the band was like a sociology experiment because of the various members' complex relationships with each other. He indicated that a solo existence could be a less stressful option. "I think the biggest problem with people surviving in a band and getting along and appreciating each other is just the fact that for the most part musicians aren't the kind of people who concentrate or worry about what the other guy thinks," he said. "Carry On," produced by Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones), marks Cornell's first solo release since 1999's "Euphoria Morning," which came out two years after Soundgarden broke up. The Interscope Records release will include "You Know My Name," Cornell's main title song for the latest James Bond film "Casino Royale," as well as a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Among the brand new tunes are "No Such Thing" and "Poison Eye," both described in the statement as having a "harder edge," and the "redemptive" song "Your Soul Today." The statement also described Cornell as "acrimonious," which a publicist said was the intended term.</div> Rage is reuniting for a show at Coachella Music Festival 2007. Will they start recording again?
Good, they sucked horribly. Chris Cornell should not sing ever again, he barely did any good with Soundgarden.

Anyway, I really liked Audioslave's first album, but they seemed to fall off during their second album. 'Doesn't Remind Me' was the only song I liked off of Out Of Exile. Their third album just plain sucked IMO.

Although I'll agree that Audioslave wasn't as good, Chris doesn't sing as well as he used to. Their first album was nice but that's it.

Cornell is a horrendous singer with almost no vocal range. Soundgarden was good though, all together anyway. Hopefully Rage will be coming back for good, just like the Pumpkins are for sure! Donno of their "entire" reuniting status though I just know of James and Billy in studio, but I would assume Jimmy is working with them too. Don't count on Darcy. Anyway, good deal about the RATM show, all the best for them.

He never had much of a vocal range, but he used to be better then he is right now, that's for sure.
I've never considered him a singer with vocal range, but he did and still sometimes does have a hell of a voice. It's just grungy and meant for Rock and Roll.
I suppose it's just me being naive about rock music, but I liked Cornell's voice. However, the main reason I listened to Audioslave was for Morello.
i never liked rage at all but i can def see why they came back with the huge fan base they had..audioslave on the other hand..there first cd is amazing..i played that cd out soo much when it first came back but with there follow up album lol im glad they broke up
I actually liked Cornell's voice. I also liked Audioslave, but am a much bigger fan of his stuff when he was with Soundgarden.

Okay anyone who rates the extremely crap past-their-prime uninspired hasbeens AUDIOSLAVE over best-metal-band-of-90s Soundgarden needs to seriously get their ears revoked.....
<div class="quote_poster">Sasha Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Best? Hardly. They were uninspiring to say the least.</div> And which band from the same genre do you like? Just wondering.
I liked Slayer and Moonspell mainly but others such as Melvins, Mr. Bungle, Sepultura, Metallica, and Faith No More come to mind as well. I don't take Soundgarden as being a metal band as well. I think grunge classifies them well. And, in the grunge category I liked Alice In Chains. They're my second favorite band. Also Pearl Jam is a heavy favorite along with Mad Season who despite their one album made some of the best music to spring from Seattle and the grunge movement.
The best metal bands of the 90s are Soundgarden, AIC and Metallica. Melvins? Moonspell? You flatter the hell out of both of those bands. In their wildest dreams they could come up with a Master of Puppets, a Dirt or a Superunknown....... Faith No More = not metal
<div class="quote_poster">Sasha Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">How are Soundgarden and Alice In Chains metal? Do explain. BTW, Metallica is horrible.</div> ^^^Didn't you just say Metallica "came to mind"? okay since you asked... I know AIC and Soundgarden get lumped in with grunge, mainly cause they're from Seattle and they're not image-conscious, but they are more metal to me. Soundgarden are hugely influenced by Sabbath - their riffs are heavy as hell. Their songs are written riff-first. They have no ballads whatsoever. They do solos. Cornell takes every opportunity to scream. And the lyrics are dark. That's a lot of metal traits. All that's missing is a skull spitting blood on their album covers. Alice in Chains also have extremely dark lyrics - the lyrics to Dirt are some of the darkest lyrics I've ever seen. They also do solos and really have no ballad type songs. Jerry Cantrell is pure metal. Grunge on the other hand - Nirvana and Pearl Jam - they have 1) more of a punk rock influence and 2) they often chill out, for example Pearl Jam's "oceans" is a song AIC or Soundgarden would never make, also Nirvana's Come As you are if Chris Cornell was singing that track it would turn into a screamfest.... Also their guitar riffs are not so important to the song, which more of a punk thing. Punk riffs are more throwaway, metal riffs are more precision and complex. I don't think the members of pearl jam or Nirvana were huge metal fans growing up, but AIC and Soundgarden are almost all total metal kids. their sound is created by their influences.
