I was trying to find out exactly when Matt Millen was hired as GM of the Lions and I stumbled across this 2001 article and found it rather amusing. It talks about how Millen is "a student of military history and a follower of Gen. George S. Patton Jr." Armed with his own blue-prints for building a successful NFL organization, the first thing Millen did as GM was find a head coach who could solve the team's traditional problem area, the offense, or lack thereof. Millen, demonstrating he was sufficiently ruthless for the job, fired the popular local coaching favorite, and went West to find a guy who knew how to put points on the board. This paragraph was refering to the hiring of Marty Mornhinweg. Matt Millen was "armed with his own blue-prints for building a successful NFL organization?" I guess his dog must have ate them. I really did enjoy the final paragraph. And thanks to the new President/CEO/GM brought in by the Fords, we'll get the chance to see Patton's ideas put into play on the football field. Lions Fans, I think we're going to like what we see. What Lion fans have seen is a 21-59 record. I think Matt Millen should give the military history a rest and try reading some Hans Christian Andersen. I laughed out loud the first time I heard they were giving Millen a GM job. Anyone who's ever listened to him as an "analyst" or as a game commentator knows why. The guy's a moron. He looks like a moron. He sounds like a moron. He acts like a moron. And based on that 21-59 record, he obviously GMs like a moron. (Nice Three Stooges pick, btw, Zackman...)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (porky88)</div><div class='quotemain'>Mooch is a good coach. It's hard to be a good coach when your GM is giving you a "Girlie Man" at QB to deal with.</div> You got that right Porky! I'm a big Mooch guy. He's from just up the road from me. I've followed his career since he was our QB at Northern Michigan University. He led us to a National Championship. I'm sure the 25 million Moe payed Mariucci helps sooth his pain.
