<div class="quote_poster">Bobcats Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">The Heat got lucky, he is only out for 6 weeks.</div> Word has it, hes having surgery that will end his season. I think he should. Shoulder injuries can be career ending if not taken care of quickly. To play with a bum shoulder would be unwise, especially with his type of basketball.
If Wade doesn't have surgery and he returns he could damage his shoulder for good and ruin his career. Depends If he is willing to take that risk.
Saw the replay this morning and that's just real bad luck. Hope Wade doesn't rush himself back and his recovery is smooth. On another note, I expect Pat Riley to immediately step down because of "surgery."
I did some research on it and found out he could have been out 10+ weeks. The Heat are fortunate; if they do find a way to sneak into the playoffs he can rejoin them.
For comparison purposes, Derek Jeter, missed 6 weeks when he seperated his shoulder in 2003. The doctors also recommended him to have surgery, but he opted not to.
<div class="quote_poster">Playmaker15 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I remember when that happened, did he end up having surgery after the season ended?</div> No, but he went through intense rehab. Fortunately, Wade is in great shape, so it will be easier for him to recover from this. What you worry about is Wade rushing back and reinjuring it, or having a setback during physical therapy. It's also going to take time for Wade to have full motion with his arm. Wade might have to tone down the way he attacks the basket until he can spend more time recovering over the summer. Wade uses his arms to break his fall so I expect him to favor his left arm when he drives to the rim.
Hmm, I wonder how this will effect Team USA? They get Kobe but lose Wade, I'm not trying to start a Wade/Kobe thing but I think that brings them down a notch to be honest.
Well the actual Olympics don't take place until 2008 so hopefully both are available. The Summer tournament is just an opportunity for the teams to practice with one another.
Only 6 weeks, we got pretty lucky on this. As Mr.J said, this couldve been much worse. Im not sure about my take on this. If he gets surgery, the season for him is over. If he doesnt get surgery now, it may get worse later, and also be a potential season ender too. But, he may be able to stay healthy and bring the Heat to at least the playoffs, if not the Championship.
<div class="quote_poster">hoops4life Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">dont you think the heat are old enough already?! haha.</div> No, the Heat has a lot of young talent. Such as Payton, Walker, O'neal etc...
<u><font size=""3""><font color=""Lime""><font face=""Arial Narrow""></font></font></font></u> Oh, my gosh!! Dwyane Wade is my favorite player ever, and then he just happens to be the guy who dislocates his shoulder! Geeez!! Well, I guess tomorrow at my basketball tourney I will win it for him.. lol well we all hope he gets better SOON! REALLY SOON! But, I really don't know how this is going to work out for the Heat with one of the biggest stars in the league off of the team... oh well they will find a way...
This is really bad news for Miami. Just as they thought that things could go well as Pat Riley and Shaquille O'neal return, they suffer a major setback with Wade going down. I think with RJ returning for the Nets and the Knicks only 2 games back from the 8th seed, the Heat will probably be watching the playoffs from their couches.

I think they will be more prepared then the previous time, especialy with kobe will make them that much better. But having Wade definetly helps.
The other day I went to NBA.com and saw a photo of Wade in a wheelchair with a towel over his left shoulder. I thought "Oh sh!t, I hope thats not a dislocation". I had this cold feeling come over me, then had to explain to my wife that this guy was the best player in the NBA last year and I felt really bad for him. Having recently gone through a left shoulder reconstruction myself (10 months ago), I can say its a long hard road. I first dislocated my shoulder about 3 years ago in a work accident. The next 2 times I done it playing organized Basketball. The 5th time it happened (on average it was happening every 6 months) I opted for the surgery. While I was playing ball, it really restricted me defensively. I wasn't confident stripping the ball with my left hand, or attempting a block with my left hand (im still not confident). Also rebounding was a huge issue as instinctively I would reach back with my left arm if the ball rebounded over my head and to the left side (this is how I popped it the second time). The worst thing for Wade that could possibly happen is he rushes back and dislocates it again. I hope they give him time to recover. Surgery now would mean 8-12 months of rehab. This is potentially a career threatening injury, but on the flip-side it could never come out again. It really depends on how severe the original injury was and how good the rehab/recovery process is. I think Jermaine Oneal dislocated his shoulder, and AFAIK has not had any further problems with it. Its just the way he was grimacing and the above posters saying he was actually crying is what has me worried. All the best Dwade, I hope you recover well.

Unfortunately, they weren't able to pop it back in place, so Wade will be at risk everytime he steps on the court. The physical style and reckless abandonment Wade plays with, it only makes sense to get the surgery done and not risk a career-ending injury.
You have got to wonder If Wade is asking for a 2nd opinion that he may mean he is edging towards getting the surgery. You don't want him to comeback in 6 weeks and re-injury It and damage his career. Get the surgery now and comeback strong next season. If he didn't attack the rim so much him coming back so early wouldn't be such as bad a risk.
As much as I want to see Miami actually defend their title in the playoffs, It would be wise for Wade to do the surgery now.
