We need to get rid of Kuptchak he did nothing to improve the team he still hasnt landed jason kidd... we would be 5 times better if we had. I dont care about keeping odom or bynum or kwame I say anyone you want other than kobe for kidd those two can win more games with a couple of guys from the rec center than the five out there now...
No way bruin, Bynum is absolutely untouchable! Are you kidding me? Oh, and also, according to some Laker fans who think they are very educated, they also believe sending Jordan Farmar on the trade is a definite NO DEAL on our part. I mean, I absolutely agree, why should we send a #26 ROUND DRAFT PICK for Jason Kidd? That would be so unbelievably stupid on our part. And, that's why I hate Laker fans with a passion.

Obviously most people would rather Smush be included than Farmar, but you don't hold up the deal to keep Farmar around. Should Mitch be fired? I don't think he should be fired because he didn't acquire Jason Kidd, but you do have to wonder why the team hasn't made any moves to improve on the defensive side of the ball. This team shouldn't have to rely on Luke and Kwame to beat teams. The Lakers lack an athletic wing defender, and those aren't hard to find. Also where's the contingency plan if the Lakers can't land Kidd? There were several other available guards who could help this team. Mitch's draft choices are definitely suspect. All the players he's been responsible for are softies.
Farmar is so easily replaceable, I don't like how Laker fans think he's some kind of god or talent. There are pg's like him that come along every year in the league, I don't see him being anything more than a 13 and 6 type of player, honestly. I would've rather traded Farmar than Smush because Smush is a good back up, he's proven to be a good offensive player. The same can't be said for Farmar, yet. I do however, disagree with Bynum. If we could've gotten KG or Gasol with him, I wouldn't settle for Kidd. As for Mitch, as much as I hate him, he worked his ass off. He called every team in the league trying to appease the Nets, but nobody wanted to deal. He had a deal lined up for Bibby, but the Maloofs pulled out because they didn't want to help us. It's not easy being the Laker GM, nobody wants to help you out without ripping you off. Also, he doesn't have final say on the transactions, Jerry and Jim Buss do. The Artest to Odom no trade wasn't on Mitch, Jim Buss refused to let go of Odom. The Boozer deal? Jim Buss. Mitch isn't a smart GM, but he does receive an unfair amount of flack.
That clown, I can't believe they kept him around after that. Personally, I think Jim Buss won't let go of Odom to save face for the Shaq trade. If he trades Odom, he's consenting that Miami raped us in that deal, which they did. The Lakers didn't want to focus all off season on the Shaq fiasco, so they rushed a deal. Pat Riley later admitted that if he would've been pressed some more, he would've given up Wade. That's in the past. According to Bucher the Lakers closed talks last night assuming that Thorn and the Nets agreed to the deal. All reports also pointed that Ratner agreed to the deal, it was Thorn who was persistent on not dealing.
From what I heard on ESPN, this deal was supposed to go down. This morning a sudden change that said "Bynum or no deal". I can't totally blame Mitch for this deal blowing over.
I would trade Smush than Farmar. Why? We've seen Smush's attitude problems in the past, do you really think he wants to play back up considering he's been a starter for almost two seasons?
I hate Rod Thorn. Talk about dirty pool. If it's true he backed last minute after both sides agreed, his credibility around the league is over. GM's aren't going to trust his word anymore.
Well according to Bucher, Kidd went to bed ready to leave for L.A. today and Thorn did get cold feet. For some reason, I want to retract my statement about Bucher saving face and I do believe this. All the comments by Kidd yesterday pointed to him being traded. Rodd Thorn is an asshole and I hope his team now suffers because of that. Any chance we can get Kidd in the offseason?
The Wade injury probably played the biggest role, if Wade didn't get injured Jason Kidd would probably be on his way to LA by now.

^ He may feel more confident in his team making a run at the playoffs. Why is Rod Thorn getting hate? He has every right to back out of a deal. Maybe he gets together with his staff and they come up with a different approach for rebuilding. Maybe he discusses the team with one of his players. Maybe he talks to another team that hints that a better offer will be available in the offseason. Or maybe he just isn't confident in what he's getting back. Either way, Thorn's a respected GM and he's not going make a deal he's not confident in, just to maintain respect.
Why? Because Jersey's owner Ratner wanted the deal to go through, everybody was signed off as the deal was official and in the morning, they were going to fax in the papers. To change your mind like that is dirty, especially at the very end of discussions. It killed L.A.'s chance of trying to work another deal.
It's not dirty, it's looking out for your own team. You're assuming that he was out to get the Lakers and there's no real reason to think that. Like I said before, there's a lot of possible reasons why Thorn wasn't confident about the trade and if he didn't think it was best for the team, it's his job to act in the best interests of the Nets. Not the Lakers.

You don't agree to a deal, and then backout last minute. There's a code of conduct GM's have to abide by. If a GM's word isn't any good, then the trust is gone in any future negotiations.

The trade deadline is the most unpredictable time of all and any number of things could've come up with so little time until the deadline. No reasonable GM could be expected to make a deal that they know isn't the best possible one, even if they do risk losing respect around the league.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting us to land Jason Kidd, but I expected at least something to happen to shake up the roster. Instead, we get absolutely nothing. I can only imagine the pain Kobe and Phil Jackson must feel right now. This is just disappointing
Well Phil Jackson might have GM abilities soon, so maybe once the Phil Jackson as GM era begins, the Lakers will pick up some star pieces to put around Kobe.
