In addition to several players, they were offering a number one pick this season and a future number one selection.

He added that Rod Thorn either changed his mind on the deal or never intended to deal Kidd.</div>

Probably Thorn pulled the "Bynum or no deal" card and the Lakers backed out.

Actually it's more like Rod Thorn is making an excuse for being trigger shy. The discussions would have never lasted this long if Thorn insisted on Bynum. He's been untouchable the last two seasons, it wasn't going to change for Kidd. Lakers aren't in a position where they HAVE to make a deal. The Lakers were just trying to improve by making use of some expiring contracts.

Also, why hasn't Thorn jumped on the Suns offer? That's a sweet deal for NJ if it was really offered. You get Atlanta's 1st Round 2007 Pick, Kurt Thomas expiring contract, and Raja Bell is a great role player at a bargain price, signed for long term.

Well so much for Kidd or Carter being traded. I agree with Shape, the suns deal seemed real good. First pick could get us Durant or Oden.

Rod's never been trigger shy. Kidd, Carter, Deke, yeah, he's been known to make big trades. He's a smart negotiator who kept the Lakers allured till the end. In panic mode maybe the Lakers would've done something that they might have not, it's a negotiating trick that many people use. A lot of those who panic might not realize what they're doing.

The Lakers are on a 6 game losing streak. I think they were going to act if that they "have to make a deal".

It's not really a great deal. Atlanta's 1st round pick is top 3 protected. So getting Durant, Oden, Wright is out of the question. This is a deep draft but I'm not trading Jason Kidd if those three are a non-possibility for me. Kurt Thomas's contract is small, it expiring really does nothing for us. Raja Bell? I don't think a 30 year old shooting guard with attitude problems is all that appealing. So in essence, getting Noah + Raja Bell for Kidd? No thanks. That's not worth it at all.
