Not sure how many God Of War fans we have, but being one of them, I'm totally stoked about this game. It's already getting rave reviews (9.7 from IGN.com), and based on what I've seen, it looks amazing. Beyond any of this though, I've also gotten my hands on the demo of it, and I must say, it rocks. I went and reserved my copy of the game at my local GameStop and got the free demo and it did what any other good demo should do...left me wanting more. I've played through it three times and I can't get over how amazing the game is. For a PS2 game, it looks beautiful. For that matter, I'm not sure how they PS2 runs the game, but it's got to be pushing itself to the max to run this thing. The gameplay is just as tight and responsive as the first one as well. The controls work fluidly, so if you die, it's your fault. And above all this, it's fun. I believe the demo is the first level (don't quote me though) and it's largely a battle with the boss, which is a huge Colossus statue. While it's not a horribly difficult battle, the demo ends before it actually ends. So, to say the least, I want the game right now...and it's not due for another 2 and a half weeks. But, in my book, this is likely the first must-buy game of the year, and if you've got a PS2, you should do yourself justice and buy the game.
Wow, I'd given up on PS2 getting any significant new releases, but this kind of took me by surprise. I played the first one, but never bought it. I think I'm gonna get this one.
Yea, I knew after playing GoW that they'd have to make a sequel, just because of how good the game is and how highly rated it was. However, when they announced it was going to be a PS2 title last year, I was somewhat surprised. However, they are making a smart move by making it PS3 compatible, and it's also going to run in 720p on the PS3 if I'm correct. So, if you have a PS3 and ditched your PS2, you need not worry about missing out on this one, and thankfully, for those of us without a PS3, we don't have to worry either. And that's the big reason why I think they made it a PS2 game in the first place. Simply because that the PS3, while now available, is still ungodly expensive and out of a lot of peoples price range, so by making it a PS2 game compatible on the PS3, they will make a lot more money and it will cost less to produce the game. Smart move if you ask me.
Should be a great game, the first is probably the best 'beat-em-up' game of all time. Likely the last great game for the PS2, the console went out with a bang releasing great titles like this one, WEE2007, Okami and a few more.
To answer that question (very late), yes it can. As for this game, I've had it for a week and I've come to this conclusion: it's the best PS2 game ever. I'm in love with this game. It's simply phenomenal. The gameplay rocks, every bit of it. The puzzles are very good (not on a Zelda level though) and the action is head and shoulders above the rest of the pack. If you love action games, do yourself a favor and get this.
Thanks for the review Moo. I've been saving up for it, ever since I saw this thread. Should have enough soon.
I know I'm bringing up this thread from nowhere, but I bought God of War II and rented Spiderman 3 over the weekend. Spiderman 3 was a waste of money and they totally phoned it in. I didn't even bother trying to finish it. God of War II, however, might possibly be the greatest video game I've ever played. It's incredible on so many levels and I've yet to find a single negative thing with the game so far. It runs so smoothly, considering how amazing the graphics are. And I know this might be a little delayed since I never bought the first one, but the action in this game is ridiculous. Its easy to learn, but there's so much variety and its so responsive. The enemies are at just the right degree of difficulty and, even with the puzzles, you never feel like the game is tedious. I've always loved Greek mythology and they nailed it perfectly with the storyline. Its no cut-and-dry, good vs. evil story, but is a lot more about different perspectives. I know Kratos is going crazy and half the people he kills don't deserve it, but I can't help but get behind and root for him. And everything is on such an epic scale (true to the mythology). You see something crazy in the background and 10 minutes later you're walking down some chains to run amok all over it (I'm thinking of those huge horses you had to unchain). Right now, I just finished killing the Barbarian King and I took his big-ass hammer. I'm so hooked.
Haha, God of War I and II are def two of the best action games ever. So dang fun with a perfect mix of puzzles and great storyline to go along for the sick gameplay. Absolutely love it
