NBA road show comes to London
    Ian Whittell

The NBA is to confirm today that the Boston Celtics and the Minnesota Timberwolves will play friendly matches in London in October. The Memphis Grizzlies and the Toronto Raptors will also play on the NBA Europe Live Tour, which will visit M?laga, Madrid, Istanbul and Rome.

The exhibition tour will feature European sides as well, but only NBA teams will figure in the London matches.

The capital will play host to the Celtics and Timberwolves at the O2 Arena in London?s Docklands, which is owned by the Anschutz Entertainment Group, the American sports company that runs David Beckham?s new club, the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The announcement means that two of the NBA?s leading players, Kevin Garnett, of Minnesota, and Paul Pierce, of Boston, will appear in front of British supporters.

The NBA is keen to make its mark in the build-up to the 2012 Olympics in London. ?The Olympics present an opportunity for Great Britain to get a broader appreciation for the sport,? David Stern, the NBA commissioner, said. </div>

Hah i know what you mean. I live in europe too i moved about a year ago from the U.S. but i go to an international school so its cool, lots of americans so we still got a pretty good basketball team going. Also some of the european players are good too. And british people hate basketball [IMG] they all like football! (soccer) hahha they get pissed when u say soccer. anyways i hope basketball will get going in europe. When i practice, i go to a school that has a court outside and im always the only one there, never see anyone else playing.

You like the sport, you like NBA, and it isn't played in England... its a rare chance, take the opportunity!

What ... like $130? Close seats.... not bad.

Well, try to get some corporate seating through your father, your employer, or whatever your hookup may be. Most of the lower bowl at NBA games are corporate seats, because no one in their right mind will be dropping that kind of cash on more than one game.

Tickets are ?90+? Damn thats a rip off. And its actually $180. Who knows by next year, they might be worth $200+ for standard seats. How do you know the seats are close? Soccer games to watch the best teams cost about $80.

And an established Basketball league, the #1 draft pick in the 2005 NBA draft and not to mention Basketball is one of the top recreational sports played in Australia.

You would think we would get some love down here too [IMG]

The only English player I can think of is Ben Gordon.

    They also have

    Loul Deng
    Kelenna Azubuike
    Pops Mensah-Bonsu

to name a few. The fact that london is hosting an NBA game is no surprise considering that they are looking in the future to try and have an NBA team in london down the line.

You may have all that but we have the only openly gay player. HA!

    other players I would include:

    Ndubi Ebi,

    Olowokandi (#1 pick),

Amaechi (First player to score in 2000),

Nash (some links to UK 3 time MVP),

    Deng (Future All Star),

Pops Mensah Bonsu (former standout at George Washington and won D-League All Star game MVP).

Can UK say we have had a #1 pick considering the Kandi man grew up here and went to Brunel University before going to the NBA.

Gordon was born in UK but raised in US so I never count him because the above I listed were born elsewhere but grew up in the UK.

And what's wrong with the BBL

Maybe one day the NBA will come to Austrailia

Don't forget Joel Freeland who is from Surrey. He's currently playing for CB Gran Canaria in Spain, but the Blazers own his rights, and he'll be coming to the NBA after next season.

Also, when you say that Olowokandi went to university in England, do you mean the American equivalency of a high school or the American equivalency of a university? Because I've heard people from the UK refer to high school as university before. Kandi actually played from 1995 to 1998 at University of the Pacific in California, but I don't think that's the type of university you meant. [IMG]

No he actually went to Brunel University in London but I am not sure whether he finished his degree there or not, but he definitely went there. (I have an offer to study computer science there haha).

Forgot about Freeland how could I!!! Portland picked him at 30 look forward to his impact in the NBA.

He actually spent his first year or so in England and then transferred to play his last three years at the University of the Pacific in California. I guess we're both right. [IMG]

For that price, hell no. However, it may be your only opportunity for a long time. You'll have to weigh your options when the time comes.

Hopefully, but we're also kinda hoping to see Gerald Green dunking during the warmups. The main problem for seeing that will be getting there in time. College finishes at 3:30, game starts at 5. Train will take an hour and a half. [IMG]
