After Miami's loss in Dallas on Thursday, O'Neal was engaged in an MVP discussion as it related to the Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki. O'Neal questioned how the media picks MVPs and said the award has been "tainted" the past two seasons. O'Neal was the runner-up for Nash's first MVP in 2005. O'Neal repeated "tainted" references to reporters. "I don't know what to say," Nash said. "I'm sorry he feels that way."</div> Link
He's just jealous because he's only won it once, despite having been a greater player during his career.
I've never liked Shaq, but since he moved to Miami and his game has declined tremendously I've had more respect for the player he used to be, I mean this guy was truly dominate. I was always upset the Suns didn't just find another fat guy to match up with him, but I realized it didn't work that way, Shaq wasn't just a big fat guy, he was nimble, athletic, and talented. At the time I was glad he didn't every MVP, but now-a-days I look back and wonder why he didn't win more. He has the right to be jealous, but he should look back to the 2000-2002 years when the Lakers were winning their Championships and he was getting 28 & 11 (he won it in 2000), instead of making waves when his team is below .500, he's missed 30 games, and he has similar stats to Ruben Patterson.
I guess I would respect the comment if I fealt he deserved the award instead. I wonder what he'll say when he gets his third this year!

LOL Shaq could make a case for the 1st MVP Nash won, it was a close race between Shaq and Nash, but it's disrespectful for Shaq to make those comments.

LOL</div> Big O was drafted in '92 along with Shaq (memorable year for Suns fans, as his rookie year was the Suns last Finals trip) so he wasn't added to the team because of Shaq. He did have another stint years later, but from what I remember he was riding the bench and I think they brought him back as more of a publicity ploy rather than somebody to match up with Shaq. Our long list of failed experiments at center include Wayman Tisdale, Hot Rod Williams, Luc Longley, Jake Tsakalidis, Jake Voskuhl, and Scott Williams. There were other guys like Joe Kleine, Danny Schayes, Horacio Llamas, and Tim Kempton, but I can't remember any of them having very many starts or serious minutes. Mark West is probably the best center (Amare is a PF) the Suns have had in decades, and before him I guess it was Alvin Adams (though he's like Amare and probably more of a forward). <div class="quote_poster">shapecity Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Shaq could make a case for the 1st MVP Nash won</div> Two years ago Shaq's numbers were way down compared to his Championship years and career numbers, if he didn't win it before I don't see why he should have gotten it with far worse numbers. Not to mention that was his worst year in FT% so they were taking him out at the end of any close game, which was one of the problems people had voting for him, the MVP shouldn't be taken out in crunch time.
I can understand Shaq's jealousy. By all means, he should have AT LEAST three or four in his cabinet at home instead of one. As big of a Kobe fan that I am, I respect what Shaq did in LA. He was the reason why we won 3 titles, Kobe just helped. If it wasn't for him, that team wouldn't have won those three, or even come close. Kobe, at that point, was simply not ready to lead the team, and it showed when Shaq was injured.

So since he was robbed other years he shouldn't get an MVP when he put up good numbers? His PER was around 27 anyway, which is MVP worthy and higher than Nash that year. Nash did not deserve that one (and he had Amare in a career year...). Shaq will always be recognized as the better player overall, in his prime, and such (over Nash); so he shouldn't even care that Steve has more MVPs. Heh.
