<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">AUBURN HILLS -- Sooner or later, Pistons owner Bill Davidson is going to get bothered by this, because it is going to remind him of the Larry Brown fiasco two years ago.

Reports continue out of Minneapolis that Flip Saunders is going to be the next coach at the University of Minnesota next season, even though he has two years and $9 million left on his Pistons contract. Sid Hartman, long-time columnist at the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, citing former Gophers coach Dan Monson as his source, reported that a deal already is in place to make Saunders the next coach.

"That's ridiculous," Saunders said before the game Sunday. "That's not true."

When told that similar stories about Brown leaving while under contract with the Pistons enraged Davidson, Saunders said, "It would make me mad, too. ... If anything were ever to come up, I would talk to him right away. But there is nothing to discuss."

On top of that, Pistons president Joe Dumars never has been asked, by anybody from the university for permission to speak to Saunders. Saunders, who said last week that he has not discussed the Minnesota job with school officials, continues to say his plans are to serve out his contract with the Pistons.

"I made a decision back when I left college at Tulsa and went to the CBA that this (NBA) is the route I would go and that's where I'm at," he said. "When I am old -- and I am not that old, yet -- I could see myself coaching a high school team or a small college team, just to coach, but I am not at that point yet."</div>

I can't imagine Flip leaving a perennial NBA title contender, for a college coaching job at this point. It's too good a situation for Flip to just walk away from. Although, Flip seems to have the type of personality that would fit the college game well, he has no reason to reroute his life at this point.

I believe the pay is considerable lower. However, one thing the college game provides is job security, something you cannot say about the NBA.
