Im noticing a disturbing trend within the league. Teams are giving up on young QBs faster than ever. In some cases, 1st rd QBs with less than a 16 starts(L.P. Losman) are considered to be failures. Without even being given the chance, they are tossed aside, or in this case, put on the trading block. Arent these the best coaches in the world? Yet, they can't coach up a kid with Losmans physical gifts? Losman is not alone. Long ago, you stuck with a franchise QB and he usally figured it out. The history of the league is littered with guys that struggled before the light turned on....on that note, I thought it would be fun to play a little game. We did this with careers a while back on deciding who should or shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame, now Ive adapted it a little bit....Im going to give you the players 1st three years without identifying the player....your the GM, and the question is this: Would you be actively looking for a starter if you had this player after 3 years?....now, everyone is always looking for talent, but I mean actively pursuing a starter like the Ravens are doing with McNair, so please, dont look up who the player is, just give me a yes or no, with yes meaning you would actively by looking to replace and no if you would stick with you investment, you are also welcome to add a comment, but please dont identify the player if you recognize the stat line, which i'm sure some of you will...after a few days I will attach names with numbers and we will see who dropped who.... 1. 38% Comp 1170 yards 7 TDs 8 INTs 42% Comp 2448 yards 18 TDs 24 INTs 48% Comp 3396 yards 20 TDs 16 INTs 2. 56.1% Comp 1997 yards 18 TDs 17 INTs 49.5% Comp 2595 yards 22 TDs 25 INTs 57.2% Comp 3211 yards 15 TDs 15 INTs 3. 54.5% Comp 325 yards 2 TDs 3 INTs 54.4% Comp 1498 yards 8 TDs 10 INTs 49.7% Comp 875 yards 3 TDs 12 INTs 4. 57.6% Comp 3338 yards 12 TDs 14 INTs 53.1% Comp 2709 yards 15 TDs 19 INTs 52.5% Comp 3489 yards 13 TDs 26 INTs 5. 56.4% Comp 2833 yards 12 TDs 17 INTs 51.2% Comp 2151 yards 11 TDs 7 INTs 53.5% Comp 2564 yards 13 TDs 20 INTs 6 59.4% Comp 3593 yards 22 TDs 17 INTs 59.7% Comp 2798 yards 19 TDs 11 INTs 59.5% Comp 3380 yards 15 TDs 17 INTs 7. 50.1% Comp 2294 yards 12 TDs 16 INTs 55.8% Comp 2880 yards 17 TDs 22 INTs 56.0% Comp 3047 yards 19 TDs 12 INTs 8. 47.5% Comp 1663 yards 7 TDs 14 INTs 56.3% Comp 2598 yards 18 TDs 15 INTs 54.0% Comp 3891 yards 22TDs 23 INTs 9. 52.5% Comp 2592 yards 9 TDs 15 INTs 56.6% Comp 2013 yards 9 TDs 13 INTs 61.2% Comp 3531 yards 16 TDs 14 INTs 10. 52.9% Comp 1749 yards 9 TDs 18 INTs 56.6% Comp 2579 yards 11 TDs 18 INTs 65.3% Comp 2754 yards 11 TDs 10 INTs

Things such as character, leadership potential, proper ability to call an audible in the correct situations, making the right call, and other factors would need to be considered.
No question that there are other considerations that come into play that you cant quantify....this is based solely on individual statistical results and how they relate to the reputation that some QBs have, that may not be diserved....for instance, some of these guys couldnt play and failed, some could and succeeded, and some did well when given a chance but were replaced anyway....Im more trying to show the differences between yesterdays league and todays as far as how long passers were given to develop....
It is a what have you done for me lately? mentality permeating the NFL. Would Peyton have been kicked to the curb? I recall his rooke season was all that great. I guess it just depends on the coach and that its all about the process & not results.

I was going to let this go longer, but we got a decent turnout already so Ill go ahead and post the results....take this for what its worth to you, but a lot of Hall of Fame QBs were released..... In closing, I think my point was proven that in todays league culture, young passers arent given a chance, even when they have success....further, the guy that won the most titles in the history of the league was released by every single person....patience is a virtue!
im really shocked i released carr. honestly, i wanted to just put keep for all of em, i thought youd do something like that
Definitely a fun game, but its also worth mentioning that the NFL was a different place when Bart Starr was lining up under center. I think him, Warren Moon, and Joey were probably the biggest surprises. Good thread overall.

QB numbers today are way over blown in my opinion. All that needs to be done to prove my theory is post a "Greatest QB's of All-Time" thread. Nine out of ten posters base their picks on modern "QB's Wear Dresses Era" numbers. To most younger fans, it's as if the NFL was founded in 1980 rather than 1920. No doubt this thread is about Beef trying to justify his hero overpaying for the "Princess". I can hardly wait for the season to start!
