I know we are ranked one in defense, but I think that stems from our ability to shut the down the lane. We seem to do very poorly against good shooting teams. I remember seeing our 3pt% def is considered very poor. Do you think we have the defensive capabilities to shut down teams like Dallas and Phoenix? Yesterday's game against Toronto exposed our flaws. It seems as if they were running circles around our defense.
The reason why our 3 pt defense is bad is because JVG stresses guarding the painted area so much. If we make it to the playoffs something needs to change otherwise we will get burned by the better teams in the West. It's nice, going to a forum where everyone can spell defen[c]se

To add something to that they are prone to illegal defense and fouling out slashing opponents. With this setup the the defending players tires easily as they have to rush also to cover the perimeter players who becomes open to take shots. Having a deep bench is a must also. It would be better if they apply 10 man deep rotation. Look at the Mavs and Spurs they are maximizing their bench. Not only they provide relief and ample rest for the starters but they gain confidence the more you give them opportunities.
I don't know what ur complainin about. Our defense is number 1 in almost every category. It seems some of you got a little spoiled One thing I'll never question JVG on is his defensive strategy (except putting Mutumbo on Devon George). Teams that give us problems are the ones that have quick athletic bigs with range, and penetrating guards. That we can't do much about because we don't have any athletic bigs. We just have to pray we can cover that weakness up.

Pho, Dal, and Uta are the only 3 teams I think we should use a 9-10 man rotation on, but we might be better off sticking to our own game. If the Rockets make it to the playoffs and play a stacked team I would like to see JVG somehow get Snyder some minutes (we'd need him in the middle of a run). 1)T-Mac-40 (Point-Forward) 2)Battier- 36 3)Rafer-30 4)Yao - 36 5)Howard - 28 --------- 6)Hayes - 20 7)Bonzi - 20 8)Head - 20 9)Mutombo -10 --- =240 Snyder(backing up Bonzi/Head if something does happen) Novak, V-Span, Lucas T-Sak (possibly Deke's replacement when he does retire) With Yao's return (knock on wood) our bench looks pretty nice.
