Rockets team physician Dr. Tom Clanton, who attended Yao's workout Saturday, said he would meet with Rockets athletic trainer Keith Jones, general manager Carrroll Dawson and coach Jeff Van Gundy today to determine whether Yao could be cleared to play Monday.

"He's doing very well," Clanton said. "We'll get together and make a decision."

Good news, we'll need him to snap this losing streak. Hope its not too early though.

He probably will return Monday. It will be intereting to see how the Rockets respond as a team when he comes back.

YES! I'm so excited, I think I'll run this game in NBA Live right now....well maybe later on today. 24 hours and 4 more minutes baby!

edit: it's 5:57 now, why does the forum say 7:01?

I know AznxBaller is especially happy about this.

In other news, Chuck Hayes will now start with Yao with the frontcourt. I like this move, because Howard and Wells off the bench will give us two post options when Yao's out of the game. If Yao can play like he did before his injury, we could be caught up with Utah within the next two weeks.

Are you just speculating about Chuck Hayes starting, or did you hear/read that somewhere? I assumed Juwan would continue to start.

Edit: Oh, I see the story was updated.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rockets athletic trainer Keith Jones and general manager Carroll Dawson said only that Yao would be on the active roster. But Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said on Sunday that Yao will start tomorrow. Forward Chuck Hayes will also return to the starting lineup, Van Gundy said..</div>

I think that's the correct decision. Though I'm sure Rock4Life won't be happy with it. [IMG] There goes his theory that Juwan being put in the starting lineup had nothing to do with Yao's injury.

Yes its a good move, but you cant go wrong with Howard spreading the floor. Hayes will probally just hang around the rim waiting for an off. reb. Either ways good as long as we get the W. Hope Yao isnt "rusty". Every time someone comes back from injury I get kind of worried because the person might be more "fragile", if you know what I mean.

Well, didn't yao start to dominate the game after he came back from the infected toe last season? I won't be surprised if he does it again. Rest seems to do wonders to the big man.

If the team could play like they are right now, but add all of Yao's numbers it would be so killer lol..

Ur right...I'm highly disappointed in Chuck Hayes starting. But unfortunatley it's what we've come to expect from JVG. Howard overrall is the better player and is CLEARLY overrall more productive for us. This is a typical "JVG type" move where talent takes a backseat to undersized quickness.

Going with youth and quickness (which Chuck has over Juwan) is a "JVG type move"? That's new. Anyways, have hope. I wouldn't be at all surprised if JVG eventually elects to put Juwan back in the starting lineup before the end of the season. He favors the older players, and if anything that would be a "JVG type move".

When you have a 7'6 giant at center who's dominant offensively but slow, it makes all the sense in the world to pair him up with a quicker, even if undersized and offensively limited, PF. The key here is talent taking a backseat to effectiveness. Bonzi is arguably a more talented player than Shane Battier, but that doesn't mean he should start over him or even get as many minutes. It's all about maximizing the effectiveness of the team as a whole. I hope Juwan can retain his offensive productivity, because our bench sorely needs it.

Inserting Howard back into to the starting lineup is a smart move. My view point hasn't changed. Hayes just can't be effective on offensive enuff to be a starter in this league. He woudn't start on any team in the NBA other than JVG's Rockets.

Our bench rarely gets used anyway. But back to ur point. I understand the need to have firepower off the bench. But we're losing SO MUCH from the PF position by starting Hayes. There are negatives for having a liability out there. SPACING is one of them.

I hope Jeff Van Gundy gets Yao some good minutes so he can get back into playing shape.

I think Hayes could swap places with Udonis Haslem. Both of them work best as gritty defenders/rebounders and score points mainly due their centers getting double teamed. The players have some differences too (Haslem is a better mid-range shooter, while Hayes shoots a slightly better FG%)
