<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Memphis Commercial Appeal - Pistons All-Star guard Chauncey Billups acknowledged he would consider Memphis as a free-agent destination in the offseason. Billups is expected to exercise a player option on a contract paying $6.9 million next season. He'll likely enter the summer as the top-rated player available. And the Grizzlies are positioned as serious shoppers for the first time. Memphis is expected to have at least $10 million in salary cap room , and has already decided to target a big-time point guard. Billups fits the bill with his offensive prowess and defensive ability, and interest. "I would be lying if I said with 20-something games left until the playoffs that I wasn't thinking about my future," Billups said. "When the time comes, I've got to consider all of my options. I know this is one team with a lot of money that's looking to get a point guard. I'm going to have to consider this option when the time comes. But right now, my focus is trying to win a championship with my team."</div> http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/449...dering_memphis/
I'm curious to know how he acknowledged that he would "consider Memphis". The only way I may consider Memphis if I was Chauncey, is if they get Oden, thereby keeping Gasol and on top of that give him a fat contract.

This just happend to come up since we just played Memphis yesterday I'm assuming. If we win the championship hes a lock here in Detroit. But if we lose I can definitely see him exercising his options.

I don't know if I'd do this move if I were Memphis, actually. That's a lot of money to pay for a point guard who'll be 31 next season, especially when your future is invested in 19 and 20 year old prospects like Oden/Durant and Rudy Gay. If I were the Grizzlies, I'd use some of that money towards a young, up-and-coming point guard like free agent Mo Williams, and then I'd use the rest of the money on next year's class, after the team would have gained more notoriety around the league for the play of either Durant or Oden. It'll always be a more attractive destination for free agents if they can prove that they can win with either of those young guys.
People are overreacting. All he said was that he would have to consider them. Of course he will. Likes he gonna go out and say "No way I want to go there"
