Wade: "I'll Play" <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MIAMI -- Heat guard Dwyane Wade announced Monday morning he will attempt to return this season. Sidelined since dislocating his left shoulder Feb. 21 in Houston while reaching in for a steal against Rockets forward Shane Battier, Wade said he plans to undertake a vigorous rehabilitation program that could have him back for the final games of the regular season. "My decision is for the next two to three weeks to rehab, with the possibility of coming back, but with no guarantee," Wade said at a hastily called announcement at AmericanAirlines Arena, "and to see if I have the confidence in my shoulder to play at a high level." </div> http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/450...says_hell_play/ This is a <u>stupid</u> move. He's got a future to worry about. His game won't be nearly as effective, as like I've stated before and it's very obvious, his game revolves around driving to the hoop, taking contact, and going to the FT line. How does he expect to do that with a severely injured shoulder? I think this could hurt Miami more than it would help. I've got a feeling Pat Riley had a big say on him coming back and convinced him too. I really hope he doesn't injure it even more.
^ His presence alone will still help Miami more than hurt them. I expect him to average around 20/4/8 when he comes back.
You think he can put up 20 if he can even make it back? I think the first time he takes any kind of contact to that shoulder, he'll reconsider coming back. There is a good chance he could further damage the shoulder. I don't know, he's a young guy and I think the smart choice would be to get the surgery and come back strong next year. At best, I see him averaging about 14/3/7.
Dumb move, imo it's just not the right time to play the hero. Or are they just hoping for another ring ? Well, Shaq has been good lately, that's for sure. But with Wade injured and coming back, it's pretty much sure that they won't be able to move the mountains this year.
Lol 14 PPG, at best? Wade is far too talented a player to only average 14 PPG. I mean he's not going to go from superstar franchise player to role player just like that. Plus with Shaq being a great passer and Kapono stretching the defense with his shooting, Wade is going to get great looks.
How much will his shoulder control the direction of the shot though. With how much pain he was in and how severe the injury was reported to be, I just can't see him coming back and impact the game like a superstar. I think his shot will be horribly off.

I know he's not going to average 28/4/8 again the rest of this season, but 20/4/7 doesn't seem so farfetched. Wade is a hard worker, don't you think when doctors clear him to practice that he's going to work on his game like he usually does? I bet his jumpshot will be just fine when he comes back.
This news got me pumped. I know he might not come back depending on how it goes. I don't think Wade averaging 20 ppg is a bad guess if he feels his shoulder is game-ready. I don't think he'll be getting 7 apg though. I think it will drop to 5 apg, just because I think other players will handle the ball more.
I think Wade knows more about his shoulder than we do, Mamba. So I think it isn't right for you to call it a stupid decision. I really dont think the injury is AS bad as the media made it sound because he is such a great player. I think they made his injury sound worse than it really is, but I shouldn't be too sure either.
like pakman said, wade knows more than we do. plus, he said theres no guarantee that he'll be back. he said it depends on how the rehabbing goes. so, if the rehab doesn't go as planned, he stays out. if it does, he comes back. and im sure his doctors wont allow him to do anything that could put him at even the slightest risk.
That's true, James Andrews is the best in the nation and he told Wade he can go through rehab. I think Wade should play well. I actually think he can get over 20. Eddie Jones had this same injury and said Wade should be fine.
Wade knowing his shoulder better than us does not defeat common logic. Obviously his shoulder is in bad enough condition to be operated on. Wade knows the severity of the situation, however. His choice, as poor as nearsighted as it might be.
^end thread with that post. Great post! if it's bad enough to where it was called one of the worst shoulder injuries in a while, then common sense kicks in. If it requires surgery, with the way Wade plays ball, I just think that surgery is the smarter decision.
Two doctors gave him medical opinions too. If the rehab goes well, Wade will play. If the rehab does not go well, Wade can choose to get the surgery whenever he wants. The doctors say there isn't much at risk except popping the thing out again and Wade having to feel the same pain again, which Wade said he would be willing to risk if he feels rehab goes well.
He was quoted as saying "...but with no guarantee." Wade is just electing to not have the surgery done and see how much progress he can make in rehab. Wade doesn't know his shoulder best, until he starts physical therapy on it. Speculating either way is premature at this point. Wade didn't even specify when he plans to return. Maybe Wade is putting out this bit of news to motivate his teammates so they finish strong in the regular season, secure playoff spot, and then hopefully Wade becomes available when the playoffs begin, or sometime in Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 or the Finals.

If I was him, I would definitely take the surgery now. If he rehabs it then 4 things could happen.... 1) He plays well and helps the Heat win it all again(the least likely of scenarios), 2) He plays and helps the Heat make the playoffs and play in them, but they get knocked out and he possibly misses the beginning of next season, 3) He plays, but re aggravates the injury and puts his career at risk, or 4) He decides after rehab to not play, and takes the surgery then and possibly misses the beginning of the following season. It's not likely for the Heat to win them all and he shouldn't risk his career. I respect him for the heart and dedication he shows, but this is just dumb, IMO.
Well in the interview on nba.com. If he were to rehab and come back, he was saying it was only going to push the surgery date back a couple of weeks anyway.
I can't seem to understand why he is doing this. Even if Miami does hold on to their playoff spot I can't see them making it far with Wade not 100%. He should get the surgery over with and look to next season. If thats the chance he wants to take...
Wade is a competitor, did anyone honestly expect him to just pack it in and call it a season? Although, I don't see Miami winning it all this season, most of us didn't see it happening last year, so who are we to say they won't? Hopefully Wade comes back and puts on a good performance without re-injuring himself.
