I mostly don't like Marbury's game. I don't find point guards that dominate the ball and look to score before passing very appealing.

I also don't like Steve Francis at all. Totally forgot to mention him before, but he's been badly overrated since he entered the league. That whole Vancouver debacle made him look like such an ass and I don't like how he's handled his stay in NY (saying he's going to be out for the year and then "miraculously" recovering when Crawford went out for the season is the most recent incident). It's like he's alienated himself from every team he's been on and now he wonders why he doesn't get the respect of a superstar.

How is Francis overrated. You're clearly exaggerrating. He's done an excellent job; you're bugging, Chutney.

You see, I don't defend every Knick! [IMG]

Francis used to be overrated. I'm pretty sure everybody knows he's trash by now.

<div class="quote_poster">MrJ Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Clearly you didn’t read my response to scrobutic, so I’ll simply repost it just for you:

“The Nets were already horrible before Marbury arrived there. His first year in New Jersey was an adjustment, but after the Nets’ poor start, the Nets were around .500 their last 60 or so games. The next season here was the story: Van Horn broke his ankle and missed 33 games, Kenyon Martin had a bad knee and missed 14 games, Kerry Kittles missed the entire season, Kendall Gill missed 51 games, and Marbury himself missed 15 games. The very next season the Nets acquired Richard Jefferson, Jason Collins, Todd MacChulloch, and their players for the most part were healthy.

In Phoenix, Marbury started the season without Clifford Robinson, Tony Delk, and Rodney Rogers who combined for 40.6 points. All three of those players played with Jason Kidd the previous year. It must also be mentioned that the Suns’ didn’t have a legit center, which is very important playing in the West. The following year, after acquiring Stoudemire, the Suns made the playoffs and took the NBA champion Spurs to 6 games. The next year Marbury was traded as of January 5, so his tenure in Phoenix that year should be negated.

When he went to New York the Knicks did well that year, but Isiah continued to make all types of changes, which disrupted chemistry. From 03-04 to the present, Marbury has had 7 coaches and has played with at least 20 different players. That’s poor management he’s just been surrounded with, which isn’t his fault.

I haven’t noticed an “attitude” from Marbury. He has clashed with many players before, but that’s just a result from all the losing. Keith Van Horn and Marbury left New York on good terms. In fact, Van Horn said “I had my best season playing under Steph.” Quentin Richardson and Marbury had some problems last year, but that was just a result of the losing. Everyone had issues with each other, but Marbury’s problems were just heavily scrutinized because he’s the media’s scapegoat. Q and Marbury are on good terms now.”</div>

So every time a team starts to absolutely suck when they acquire Marbury it's just a coincidence? Get real...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Answer me this: how is Kobe – your favorite player – more of a team player than Marbury? Players and coaches alike have criticized him for being selfish, egotistical, etc. After Shaq’s departure, which Kobe definitely contributed to, the Lakers have been decent at best. Kobe was also charged with a felony and cheated on his wife. Is defending Kobe "beyond you" too? Marbury and Kobe both have many unlikable traits, but too bad Kobe isn’t an option. Great job in sticking up for your favorite player!</div>

You obviously missed the part that Kobe was actually willing to work things out with Shaq UP until Shaq requested a trade out of L.A. because of their failure against the Pistons. Shaq was pissed at the organization for making the smarter decision and sticking with Kobe, somebody they could build around for the next 10 years.

The criticism of Kobe Bryant has greatly died down since Shaq has left, btw. That's a very invalid argument. Phil and Kobe are now on great terms with each other (since you like using that argument). Kobe Bryant gets a lot more respect in this league for being a leader than you're giving him credit for. I'd absolutely love to see Marbury play with this injury-riddled Laker team. I don't know who would cry more, Smush or him.

Kobe was accused and charged with a felony that he was proven innocent of? What is your point with that? He cheated on his wife? Ok, but what NBA player hasn't? Be real here, cheating in the NBA is very common, there is too much temptation being on the road all the time. Hell, even Kirilenko's wife allows him one day a year to cheat on her.

Kobe and Wade were left out for a reason, as it would've turned into a Kobe vs. Wade thread. I thought you, of all people, would be able to realize that. I'm sorry I was completely wrong.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Secondly, how is Jason Richardson, who is currently averaging 14.1 points on 39.5% shooting, 31.5% from downtown, on a whopping 14 shots per game, better than Marbury? I think you probably want to rethink that, buddy. The rest of the players you named are all-stars and all-star caliber players, so it’s not a bad thing to say Marbury isn’t better than them. </div>

Jason Richardson hasn't been the healthiest cat this year. I meant he's been the better player over the past couple of years, not just this year.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">And about the Telfair/Marbury “issue”, Marbury has his own needs: he has two parents, I believe six or seven siblings, a wife, children, nieces, nephews, etc. He has his own financial needs and he did provide some financial support for Telfair, who would soon be signed to a $30-million dollar Addidas contract. The two remain on good terms. </div>

At the time, Telfair was living like crap. You're telling me Marbury, a multi-millionaire, couldn't spare some $$$ or a room to live in? That's a joke. Family first...Telfair is part of his family. That is what I meant by his contributions to his community. Who gives a damn if you're not willing to help your own family first.

I just explained to you that Marbury has been on injury-riddled teams and teams with bad management. Is it a coincidence the Lakers have been bad since Shaq left, while the Heat have won a championship?

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You obviously missed the part that Kobe was actually willing to work things out with Shaq UP until Shaq requested a trade out of L.A. because of their failure against the Pistons. I?m not too sure. Here are some of Kobe?s quotes during that season. I?ll let you judge how much of a ?team player? the quotes say he is:

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe:</div><div class="quote_post">?I don't miss 15 games because of a toe injury that everybody knows wasn't that serious in the first place.?</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe:</div><div class="quote_post">?If leaving the Lakers at the end of the season is what I decide, a major reason for that will be Shaq's childlike selfishness and jealousy.?</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe:</div><div class="quote_post">?But somebody in this organization had to speak up, because his unprofessionalism hurt us last year, and I don't want it to hurt us this year.?</div>

I can?t find the exact quote, but he said something along the lines of:
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kobe:</div><div class="quote_post">?I should have paid off my women like Shaq does?</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Phil Jackson:</div><div class="quote_post">?Kobe can be consumed with surprising anger, which he's displayed toward me and toward his teammates.?</div>

    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jerry Buss:</div><div class="quote_post">?It's not that I'm enamored with Kobe's character?</div>

Clearly, Kobe hasn?t exactly showed how to be a team player either? at least in that season he didn?t. You can probably pull up quotes from Marbury too. But my question to you is what makes Marbury not a team player and Kobe a team player?

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The criticism of Kobe Bryant has greatly died down since Shaq has left, btw. That's a very invalid argument. The criticism of Marbury has greatly died down too, so what?s your point? Marbury also has been on injury-riddled teams too. I just explained to you a particular season with the Nets, which you clearly ignored. Knicks right now are missing Lee, Richardson, and Crawford, who are more important to the Knicks than Odom and Radmanovic are to the Lakers.

How is Phil Jackson?s assessment of Kobe an ?invalid argument??

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Kobe was accused and charged with a felony that he was proven innocent of? What is your point with that? He cheated on his wife? How can you justify his actions by saying ?Ok, but what NBA player hasn?t?? That doesn?t make it any less wrong, does it? And yes, I?m fully aware of Kirilenko?s wife. To that you yourself said:

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Mamba:</div><div class="quote_post">?That's actually very disgusting, from a mature point of view. Marriage is a relationship, a bond between two people.?</div>

Why do you think Kobe gets so much hate from people? Could it be for some of the same reasons people hate Marbury?

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jason Richardson hasn't been the healthiest cat this year. I meant he's been the better player over the past couple of years, not just this year.</div>
So has Marbury. In fact, last season he just broke his 280 consecutive game streak. This season he?s playing on a bum knee and is producing. Richardson being the better player the past couple of years is also very debatable as well. Marbury has been putting up 20+/8+ the past couple of years too, which has only been done by Oscar Robertson. But even if you think he is the better player, it doesn?t take away too much from Marbury since Richardson was always an all-star talent.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">At the time, Telfair was living like crap. Marbury?s family did come first: his wife, children, mother, father, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, etc. What also must be said is Marbury did provide the Telfair?s with some financial aid. As much as you want to believe he was living like crap it isn?t exactly true either. The Telfair family weren't living the most glamorous of lives, but they had a moderate income. Besides, Telfair was signed to a $30-million contract before he even graduated high school. And, like Kobe and Phil, the two are in good terms now.

Marbury was averaing 22 points, 8 assists that season. He clearly was amongst the upper echelon of point guards in the league. He could have easily been considered in the top 5 or so. That doesn't make him an idiot, especially since he gave Kidd and others credit.

Even if you still think it's idiotic, how is Gilbert's quotes any less idiotic?

Wtf was this btw? Do you know how many ballers cheat on their wives? Lol. You shouldn't be shocked, that's ridiculous. I also don't ever hear people call MJ a scumbag for all the girls he had sex with (which is why I brought him up), nor does it matter to the media. The "facts" are that she absolutely lost this case.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting boogielew Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">You don't know the facts either, Pal. Only what you choose to believe from what you have read. I have read reports contrary to what you say. And i choose to believe those. Unless you were part of the defense team or a member of Kobe's family or friends( and i wouldnt believe a word Kobe says based on his character).

Why is writing a book so strange, look at the Simpson case nearly every one involved has tried to cash in with a book.

No kidding, why were the charges dropped? because Kobe paid her off and that was a condition of her getting her pay off. Just like OJ, Kobe would have been found guilty and would be liable for a huge pay day for her. The difference Oj was stubborn and refused to try for a settlement and still refuses to pay and Kobe's steamrolled her into taking a pay off. Again nothing strange to this.

My point was that Kobe's character is clearly questionable with his adulteress lifestyle, so how is he any better than her. So she does many guys, big deal at least she isnt married and cheating on her spouse doing it.
Waht does MJ have to do with anything?

No, you were reporting your version of what you believe to be the facts, which is in reality an opinion, Pal.

Just because a woman is troubled, keep in mind she is quite young and wanting to committ suicide is not taht rare, actually attemtping is a bit different than talking about it.... but you have to be kidding me.... you are saying a girl who is exploring life at a young age and sleeping with multi partners is worse than a scumbag that is an adultress cheating on his wife... amazing.

Kobe is the clearly troubled person here forcing himself on a young girl, raping her, then paying her off so the rest of his scubag history doesnt come out, so he can continue to made the big bucks in a sport in which he should behind bars playing it. Kobe is so fake, funny how he suddenly got tats after that whole thing came out about how he grew up pampered and he was trying to get street cred. He is a joke.

I believe Kobe is guilty and a rapist, and is fortunate he was the ability to pay this girl off and keep it all quiet. Based on all that i have read, the interviews and specials i watched on the case during the time. I am sure i am just as privy to the facts as you are, Pal</div>

If you think Kobe has just as questionable a history as her (before the rape case) then you're crazy. The girl tried to kill herself. What does it matter how crappy a guy Kobe is anyway? The girl had sex less than a day after she is "raped", that certainly is not normal. Her promiscuous nature after this "event" is quite revealing.

Ok this is a waste of time, but I was not reporting my opinion to you. It's a fact what I said about the rape kit exam, her sex after and before the rape (I saw John Stossel interview the guy she had sex with), and such. How can you throw away these dubious circumstances by saying "OJ this and that"? You never bring up any facts of the case, it certainly doesn't seem like you know any details at all. Face it, the girl behaved awkwardly for a rape victim, she seems to have sex with many strangers, and she dropped the charges because she knows she had little on him. Shapecity put the nail in the coffin anyway. She was going to run to "20/20" any second without that gag order.</div>

The bolded comment is one that refers to what Mamba was saying. MJ never gets bashed for his infidelity. That shouldn't come into the equation when criticizing Kobe.

Steve Francis wasn't overrated, he was a BALLER back when he was Houston. I think it was when JVG came in when things started screwing up between the two, because Rudy knew how to play with Steve.

He doesn't SUCK now, he just plays alongside of Marbury (who, in NY is considered better than Francis since he was a Knick longer) ... and to add Marbury plays a similar game to Francis. If Knicks' offense was ran through Francis, yes .. if he was given a chance... you would see how good Francis plays. He creates his shot off the dribble ... he's not a catch and shoot kind of person.

Francis had his popularity in Houston. He was a cold superstar when he used to play for the Rockets. No way was he overrated. He carried Rockets alongside with Mobley and Yao, a young Yao. We were never a real good playoff team, but we were always a good season team. A lot of the credit was due to Francis' leadership. The guy made the All-Star team like I think about 3-4 times as a starter. I know that doesn't mean much, but common when he went to East he wasn't even an All-Star. He goes to NY where he isn't the focus of the team. Then his points drop and his stats drop and people call Francis sorry. If Francis was the focus of the Knicks, he'd be a great leader. He isn't overrated at all.

I stole this one from Iggy from the team thread but I'll throw it out there anyways. I can not stand Alonzo Mourning. First he turns down a contract with the heat to go play with the Nets for more money. Then he cries and won't play for the nets, he wants to play for a winner. We'll maybe you shouldn't have signed the contract for money in the first place you moron !!!!

Now he did have legit health problems but at the same time he exagerated his problems in order to not report to the Nets/Raptors. Then magically he makes a comeback to appear on the Heat's roster once he's bought out by the stupidest GM of all time (Rob Babcock). He's the definition of a scumbag in my books.
