He's a basketball player who's making millions and is going to be able to support his kid. I was born when my parents were in their mid-twenties, and they raised me right. Hell, LeBron had a kid a year or two and he's almost 2 years younger than Melo.

I don't see any issue with the man missing a game to witness the birth of his child. That's obviously something though that some people can't learn to respect at a young age.
