Never thought that Lindsey Hunter would test positive for a banned drug. Who says that the NBA doesn't have a performance enhancing drug problem?

Phentermine is a drug primarily used as an appetite suppressant. Chemically, it is an amphetamine (and a phenethylamine). It is typically prescribed for individuals who are at increased medical risk because of their weight, as opposed to cosmetic weight loss. Phentermine is sold either as an immediate-release formulation (Adipex?) or as a slow-release resin (Ionamin?, Duromine? in Australia and New Zealand).

It doesn't sound like a performance enhancing drug. He might've just used it to drop a few lbs too fast. 10 games seems to be a bit harsh. [IMG]

I looked up phentermine, and apparently, it's just an appetite suppressant. I just wanted to clear that up before people started accusing Hunter of being a juicer or a drug addict.

I know it seems harsh, but think about it this way.

These guys make millions of dollars to play basketball, and in doing so, they agree to certain terms set forth by the NBA which include an agreement to not use any of the league's banned substances. If he took the substance phentermine in some form, and that's clearly banned by the NBA, then he deserves every bit of ten games, whether it significantly improved his game or not.

In fact, he probably deserves to be suspended for longer. Why do non-performance enhancing drugs like LSD get you banned from the league for two years, but a drug like phentermine gets you ten games? That's flawed logic.

Is that what Andersen got banned for?

They never specified what he tested positive for, but it more than likely wasn't acid, that was just a hypothetical example, because it's only detectable in urine tests for three days after you take it. Trust me, I know all this stuff. I used to be on athletic scholarship at a school and one of the conditions was that I be drug tested annually. [IMG]

It was probably coke, meth, or heroin. Steroids and other performance enhancers are given different penalties.

Hunter said it was his Wife's pills that he took. It is not illegal but it is banned by the NBA Therefore, Lindsey may have been unaware of the rule.

I can believe that the guy honestly didn't know they were against the NBA rules, but if you're an athlete making that much money, why would you ever put your career on the line by taking strange pills? He should have at least found out what was in them.

If they were diet pills they were most likely prescribed to her. I think there is a difference between mens diet pills and womans diet pills.
