just reading through this article on realgm (link:http://grizzlies.realgm.com/articles/41/20...nd_next_season/) its fun to think if a linup of Billups,Gay,Miller,Warrick and Oden/Durant, not to mention what you guys will get from dealing Gasol (if it ever happens). think about the future of the grizz, i mean look at all the young talent there and how good they could be after 3-4 seasons together. if you guys could get billups in with guys like gay and miller i think you could be a fantastic offensive force, and with guys like warrick and possibly oden, along with billups you will also have a good defense as well, so you almost solve all your problems.

Like I said in the Pistons forum, the Grizzlies' core at the moment consists of a bunch of 19-22 year old prospects, and Billups' is a veteran in his thirties. By the time our young, core players (Gay, Oden/Durant, Lowry, and even Warrick to an extent) start to reach their full potential, Billups will be on the verge of retirement. I think the smart move to make would be to go after Mo Williams in free agency this summer. He'd probably be half the price as Billups, but he'd be just as legitimate running the the point, and he's only 24 years old. As for Gasol, they should definitely hang onto the guy. He's only in his mid-20's, and look at all the tools he already has. There's only one other seven footer in the league who can do what he can - Kevin Garnett. You just won't hear about Gasol because he was out for the entire first half of the season with a broken foot, and because he plays for the Memphis Grizzlies. Trading him for anything less of a superstar would be settling for too little though. Think about the possibility of a Gasol-Oden frontcourt. How sick would that be? If the Grizzlies do get the top pick, I just hope they don't get lured into taking Kevin Durant. As much as I think he'll be a superstar in this league, Oden's interior presence is much needed, especially defensively. After making the boneheaded move of trading Shane Battier away for Rudy Gay, Jerry West has created the archetype of a team with lots of offensive firepower but no defense. He's just really enticed by smooth, athletic wing players, like Gay, and unfortunately, like Durant. Hopefully he will have been fired by the draft though.
Are the Grizzlies going to stick with Barrone and his uptempo style for the long run, or will it be shortlived? I agree Billups is not the right fit for this team short or long term. The Grizzlies have a lot of question marks they need to address from an organization standpoint, before they make a commitment to a high priced free agent. Will the team be sold? Will Jerry West return? Who's the head coach going to be? Until the Grizzlies figure those issues out, they will likely continue to stockpile, young, cheap talent and then put the structure in place to get the most out of the talent, and trade away players who aren't fitting into the structure.
Sort of Random but: Which team in the NBA is the only team not to have won at least 2 consecutive games all year? yes its the Grizz

And yes before they can attack free agency. They have more pressing issues to deal with. Too many I might add. As for going after Mo Williams. He would be the best option to go for as the next Grizz PG. He looks to pass first, shoot next, and will do the extra things necessary to help teams win games. He just need to turn his TOs' down some. And things should be good.
