One hell of a game. You got to love the back-and-forth that Paulus and Maynor had at the end of the game. What an ending.
Great game by VCU and what daggers by Maynor. Anthony Grant is a helluva coach. Go to the Sweet 16. Oh about the refs, they were pretty fair on both ends. It was a physical game and they blew their whistle a whole lot, but for the most part they had about the same amount of iffy calls on both sides.

Where were you when we did Pick 'Em, or during the season when Duke won so many controversial games and lost so many in a row? Those are hot Duke-related topics. You'd think someone with such a flaming, passionate hate against the Blue Devils would have stopped by to chime in. Really, the only one on this board with an excuse to hate Duke should be Gators, being an ex-Terp. About the game, Maynor is a bigger cheap shot artist than Kobe Bryant and Bruce Bowen. If Greg Paulus had any balls, he would have stood up for himself. Watching Xavier/BYU and seeing Danny Ainge in the crowd is bringing back memories of Ainge playing for the Celtics and just not taking any crap from anyone. He wasn't an instigator, but he didn't let himself get beat up on like Paulus does. Duke has no intensity. That's what they're missing. They've got six or seven McDonald's All-Americans, whereas teams like Florida, Wisconsin, and Texas A&M have one or none. That says a lot about the character of the recruits that Coach K is getting. Experience does play a role in it, but it's not a central factor in their lack of success. Last year's Florida club lacked experience, but that didn't stop them from making a nation title run. Thjs season's Texas squad has no experience, nor did Syracuse the year they won it all. It's all a matter of intensity and effort, areas where Duke comes up short. Several times tonight, Josh McRoberts got the ball in the post in a position to take it forcefully to the rim for an easy two or a chance at the line, but instead he hesitated and let the defense catch up to him, or he fumbled the ball over to VCU. That's not the kind of effort that guys like Parks, Brand, Battier, Boozer, and S. Williams brought for Duke in the interior.
Thanks for clarifying that for us, VC. You should write a book about who's allowed to hate Duke and who's not.

Am I really at fault for calling him out for being a hypocrite? Most of the posters in this forum at the moment avoid this forum like the plague eleven out of the twelve months of the year, and then they come in here in March and talk a lot of **** and get riled up about things they don't really know anything about. Casual fans and bandwagon fans. They're in every sport and in every league. Can't fault them for getting caught up in the excitement of the tourney, though. I haven't followed college ball long enough to really hate Duke, but I always like watching an upset.

It comes from no foundation other than the fact that Duke's a great team, and they're envious that they can't be a part of that success. Jealousy is simply unbecoming. Besides, it's one thing to hate a team consistently. It's another thing to show up in March, pick them to win in your bracket, and then turn around and celebrate when they lose.

ohyeah, i forgot about baller's sig, lol (altho technically its not the first week in march, haha, im just trynig to be complicated). voodoo child, to keep things simple, i absolutely love everything that you're saying and completey agree. i've been saying all year that this year, im not going to be mad if we lose b/c it is a rebuilding season. yet, i was not expecting a first round loss...on the other hand, with another year of experience for our current players, and very good recruits already signed (with the current possibilty of another one in patrick patterson, whom im excited about if we get him), i will be really disappointed if next season brings the same results as this one. imagine if this year we could finish some games, i mean, how many games to we lose by 5 points or less? as a metter of fact, im gonna go find out.
