I just recently got my HP Upgrade disk, and haven't upgraded yet. Just wondering if anybody has already upgraded too it? Like it hate it? Reasons? Tips on installing or anything like that also.
I have it on my laptop (which my just got me for Uni in fall) but it's the home edition. I haven't explored with it much, the most I can say is that it's much more easier to navigate and easy to use. There's some new features that I've yet to explore.
Vista's sweet. M21, what's so bad about it? Functionally, it's awesome, and I love the sidebar thingy.
Here's a few key things that irk me about Vista... Hardware Compatibility You can run Vista on just about any computer, but only one package. Windows Vista Basic. So, that means no 3D Aero graphics, live animation along the taskbar, smooth streaming graphics on your desktop and other key features that make Vista good. So, in order to get the full aspect of Vista, you have to get preferably a new computer overall or a new video card with a crap load of new memory. Either way, by updating to Vista, you're not only throwing down money for the upgrade disc, but for other components that you need in order to enjoy the full experience. Blasphemy is too small of a word. Aero Graphics & Battery Life Um, they kill it. If you want your Aero graphics, then you gotta sacrifice your long business trips. Your battery simply will not hold up. Good ol' Microsh*t. User Account Protection Just about every single file you open and/or download goes through a cleansing process that takes up too much time and takes too much of you, the user to endure through. Even administrator accounts have to sit through useless Q&A's with the UAP helper. The Instant Off Option It takes a screenshot of what you're doing and shuts down your computer preventing it to steam up your backpack or what have you when you're on the go. Sounds nice, but more often than not it totally forgets what you were doing before you shut it down. Yet, Microsh*t is saying they totally fixed this problem, and is one of the key features of Vista they are truly proud of. and... <ul> [*]No support for DVD drives lacking firmware region coding. [*]New monitor needed to view Hi-Def content. [*]Vista will encrypt hard drives by default. [*]Vista may shorten the life of flash memory. [*] Drivers have to be signed for x64 versions of Vista. [*]Vista won't work with many graphics cards and will remove games developers' ability to cater for older systems. [/list] I'll stick with my XP.

Thing is the system has operating malfunctions, usually with certain video games for the PC so gamers get screwed even worse. Then there has been issues with people having Office 2003 and their entire PC malfunctioning because of incompatability. Resulting in total system failure, which to me makes absolutely no sense considering who actually created all of the incompatable products, Microsoft. I'll stick with XP until they have their problems resolved, which I'm sure they can do. So far though Vista is dubbed by many as the replacement for Windows ME on the "total crap" scale.

Well, I like Vista, but I don't plan on upgrading to it on my current setup. I know that my specs (P4 2.4Ghz, 512MB memory, 80GB hard drive, ATI Radeon 9200) aren't good enough, but I can live with it. It's the same theory that you can't run XP on a P2 computer. Vista is the "next generation" and the new computers with the gigs of memory and dual core processors can max out Vista's capabilities. Those that run Vista on the minimum requirements are the ones who shouldn't really use it. I'm getting a new desktop this summer for university, so I'll definitely get to fully explore Vista.
I bought my PC a few months ago, it has a sticker on the side that says "Designed For XP, Windows Vista Capable"
<div class="quote_poster">P.A.P. Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Aren't you a Mac guy?</div> Yeah, but I also have a desktop computer in the den that runs Windows. I use that one mostly for gaming/homework. The Mac is for my desiging/entertainment. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting SP23:</div><div class="quote_post">Is the battery life just for laptops or what, can you explain that too me?</div> Yeah, but even on a regular old desktop, it's still a resource hog. If you have to get the Basic package because that's all your computer can handle, you know there's something wrong. As well, there was no reasoning for Microsh*t to put out another OS. XP is fine, and with its service packs and countless patches, it has become the worlds most recognizable and easy-to-use (hardly, by my standards, but whatever) OS by far. Vista has gained nothing new aside from an interface lift. Yet, the resources meters are spiking everywhere, and especially with their signature line of products like Office. Nothing new is being introduced, but yet they take up so much room that it takes forever for an average computer to load up files anymore. Vista is bad. I would advise everyone against it. Take my previous post and research it for yourself, especially the bulleted points and you'll see.
