<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">St. Francis - Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut often is faced with a split-second decision, as an opposing player penetrates the lane and heads toward the basket.

To take the charge, or go for the block?

The 7-foot Bogut has become adept at planting himself in a stationary position and drawing charges, a true defensive weapon. But should he contest more shots?

Coach Larry Krystkowiak thinks Bogut is learning the subtleties of defending in the National Basketball Association and making progress in his second season.

"They don't keep this statistic in the NBA, but I'd be surprised if he didn't lead the league in charges taken," Krystkowiak said. "Certainly among centers, I know he is (leading).

"On the flip side, there's times when a real quick penetrating guard will come in, and he (Bogut) goes to get his feet in one spot, and he could actually change a shot. His ability to know that this is a charge opportunity, or I might want to try to go get this block, he's working on that."

Krystkowiak and former Bucks coach Terry Stotts visited Bogut in Australia last summer, while the big man was in training camp with his country's national team.

The relationship between Bogut and Krystkowiak grew stronger during the current season, as they worked together during long hours after practice. Krystkowiak was elevated to the head coaching position Wednesday night, after Stotts was fired earlier that day.

Bogut is not shy about joining the debate over his defensive skills, and the ways he can be most effective.

"A lot of people always complain about the shot-blocking and all that," Bogut said. "I challenge a fair share of shots; I'm not the best shot-blocker at the moment. I do try to take a lot of charges, and it definitely is underrated.</div>

He is very good at drawing charges, we've enjoyed that since Day One. I was really surprised how ready he was to do the dirty work when he first got here. I agree, though, that he has to start blocking more shots. We're one of the very worst shot-blocking teams in the league, and with our shoddy defense, a shot swatter or two would really help.

Good to see an Australian on this site. I live in Australia myself. Why is it that most Australians go for the Chicago Bulls lol.

Anyway, Bogut is not a good defender and most likely never will be. Thats why we have to tank for the rest of the season, and try to get Greg Oden.

But dont get me wrong, Bogut is a great all around player, defense is just his weakness. But what player dosnt have a weakness these days?

Not really, lol. I dont like the Bucks, but Bogut is ok I guess.

My friends step sister is (or was, dunno what the deal is now) dating him, they went to High School together back down in Melbourne, they're really good friends. He even flew her over to the US to visit him last year. Me and her step brother wanted to try and get her to get us some signed Michael Redd jerseys off Bogut, lol.

Nope, hate Bogut. Don't mind the Bucks. Redd is under-rated (and a lefty, gotta love the lefties.)

    NTC187 isn't, you aren't! we found 2.

I don't think there is anything wrong with being a Bulls fan or Austrailian or both.

I'd assume most Bulls fans are old school from the Jordan era, how many of them still follow basketball? Wouldn't think there are many
