I always read Gil's blogs, partly because it's a NBA player taking the time out to actually write about what's going on in his life, and partly because he's hilarious. I like the way he approaches the game, and it annoys me when people over-analyze the things that he does. Case in point, his latest blog is an excellent read. I really enjoyed reading it, and I agree with pretty much everything that he says. I know some JBBers don't like him (or atleast his "arrogance") and often reiterate the phase "He should just play basketball", and for that, he has written this specific blog. A great read IMO and I'm glad a star in this league is taking the time out and actually reiterating what the game is really about - having fun. There's too many intracacies in the game nowadays and he calls it out. The biggest problem nowadays is that there's always a certain image that players have to maintain. Although I agree with off-court maintainence (i.e - dress code), I don't agree with things such as not allowing armbands on your biceps and what not. Kudos to Gilbert for bringing up the whole "fan's perspective" issue on all this, cause that's what is the most important. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> That’s what it is. That’s who I am. I’m a fan. I enjoy the game. So if that’s “crazy” or “quirky,” just give me season tickets to any arena and let me sit there with 20,000 other “crazy” and “quirky” people. So when I hear critics say, “Just play basketball,” I say, from the age of 14, that’s all I’ve been doing – playing basketball. I’ve been playing from a fan’s view. There’s hundreds of NBA players, but there’s a few basketball-playing fans. What I mean is that there’s a few NBA players that’s actually a fan of the game of basketball. There’s a few players, if you take the money away, they will still play it as hard as they do. Only a few. “Gilbertology” and “Gilbert being Gilbert” means Gilbert enjoying his time in the NBA. From predictions that I say I’m going to do, to pranks, that I have fun doing with my teammates. I’m going to enjoy it because you never know when it’s going to end. From a season-ending injury, to a career-ending injury, you never know how long it’s going to be. You never know how long you’re going to be in this game. </div> http://www.nba.com/blog/gilbert_arenas#070322_01
I do to. He actually gives the fans respect. How anyone say he didn't drop 50 on da blazers so he needs to shup up. Besides the fact that the blazers suck (no disrespect) he dropped 54 on the suns ( great team) 60 on kobe(good team) and 51 on the jazz(good team) with 3 game winning shots and 14 buzzer beaters which of course he leads the league. He definely on superstar status know and I'm lovin it. If King James can go 0-9 on game winners than another superstar can have 19pts and 10assist insteat of 50.
That's the best analogy I've heard comparing to an nba player. I think he does it for fun but doesn't fully realize he's a superstar so everything he does and says is took seriously.
Yeah, I read it and was about to read it. A great read and explanation for Gilbert haters. Gilbert doesn't even get the respect he deserves when his predictions actually come true, they're more interested to see him fail than to see him have fun. About the Deshawn Stevenson's signature hand to the face thing, he should be able to do that. If you're going to say that's a gang-sign, then you might as well criticize John Cena for doing the same.
<div class="quote_poster">authentiq Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">i never knew there are Gilbert haters..</div> Lol, you have to think the Lakers fans hate him after his 60 point performance at the Staples center. The entire Rose Garden booed him every time he touched the ball just so they can see him fail.
They should play one nba season without pay you have a choice to play if you want or not. No money your playing your heart out for free, I'd like to see whos actually got the most heart in the nba.

Wow. Excellent post and excellent article. It's given a whole new respect for Gil. And that's coming from a Portland fan.
I still thinks hes an asshole. He can't even score 50 after guaranteeing it twice , and Kobe does it three games in a row.

It's not like you would even give him his props, you'd just care only if he doesn't succeed. He scored 54 against the Suns like he promised, but it's you didn't give him his props.
I think u are a bangwagon asshole. Ur just on kobe's jock like everyone else giving gilbert something else to do in the future. Oh but since kobe scored 50 3x's in a row ask kobe who scored 60 on him n la breaking most points ever in overtime. Gil got more game winners this year then kobe does his whole career and he still got haters....that's sad

lol, the NBA edited out the part where he mentioned making bets with fans and made him promise not to make them again.
