Texas A&M vs. Memphis CC About a minute left, A&M up by one. M21, I think your bracket relies on this game.
wtf 1.1 seconds? Great, we have another f***ing Duke clock situation. How can you look at that replay for 8 minutes and get it THAT wrong?
The hell...how did you get 2.0 seconds? It would of been nice to see Law take that last shot but Memphis played great D. I still can't believe they took off about a second more than they should of.
Yeah I don't know how you get 2.0 seconds. Give credit to Memphis though, they had a hell of a game and proved the doubters wrong.
Don't they stop the clock when they blow the whistle? How does it take 1.1 seconds as the guy lost the ball to when they blow the whistle? It took no longer than .2 seconds. Well, there goes my bracket.
Clock starts on contact and doesn't stop until the ball lands out of bounds. 2.0 still seemed way too low since I thought it landed out just a split second after being touched. I'd have to watch it in super super super slow mo' to be sure though, and the refs took long enough that MAYBE they did just that. Still, on the surface that seemed really screwy. Gotta like how the ball bounced Memphis's way for like 5 offensive rebounds on that last possession.
How ironic. Memphis is ranked 300-something in the NCAA in free-throw shooting, but ultimately it was their free-throw shooting that won them the game. Who knew...
Not defending the call, but the ball bounced on the court then after the bounce it landed out of bounds. I would say they should have taken off about .4-.5 secs. TAMU can't blame the refs though, they can only blame themselves. Law botches a layup and then they give up FOUR offensive rebounds on the final possession and got 5 shots, one is gonna fall or they will get fouled just like it happened.
It bounced IN bounds after Dorsey touched it and therefore the clock shouldnt have stopped until it hit something out of bounds. Good call by the officials.
I cant believe Law IV missed that layup. Maybe he just went to fast, but man, the other guy flew under him.
First let me say, that I am an Aggie. That being said, contrary to what a lot of people will say the refs made a good call at the end of the game with the clock situation. The ball is ruled out of bounds not when it crosses the plane but when it hits an object out of bounds (the object can be a player, person, chair, table, etc.) In this case - it was a table/announcer's hands. I thought the refs did a good job of making the right cool - no matter if it ended up screwing us over in the process. It is really ironic that the best player to ever play basketball at A&M and a player that will go down as one of the must clutch players ever in college missed a game-winning layup that would have made it a three point game. Acie Law has been nothing but spectacular all year - hitting game winning and tieing shots - that seem "impossible" to many. No one thought he would miss that layup. Memphis certainly shouldn't have gotten 5 shots at the rim at the end of the game but at the same time I believe that referee made a bad call on Sloan. Whether that was a legitimate foul or not can be reasoned both ways. Was thier contact on the shot? Yes. You also need to look at how the game was played and called in a wholistic sense. The game was a very physical game where the referees defintely let the players play. I thought it was a really ticky-tack foul to call in that situation and considering how the game had been called for the first 39 minutes. It was a bullshit call in fact. If they were going to call that ticky-tack of a foul, then the "bump" on Acie's waist while he was taking his lay-up should have been called as well. Yes - it was that ticky-tacky of a foul. Should A&M have gotten the rebound well before the 5th shot? Yes. Should the referee had blown his whistle and ultimately take the game out of the player's hands? No.
I'm just asking for consistent officiating...hopefully that's not too much to ask...I believe in this situation, it was too much to ask, and the game was decided by a whistle and not by the players. And, contrary to what any announcer wants to believe, the calls do not "even out in the end."
Yeah, the refs got the right call on the game clock. And there definitely WAS contact on that shot, but I also agree with what you said: not worth calling. It's fun trying to imagine what was going on in the refs said, I bet it went something like this: "Jeez, another offensive rebound! How many chances are they gonna get? Wow, 4 shots so far and they really haven't been fouled on any of them? Hard to believe, maybe we weren't looking for fouls? ****, oh look, contact, foul!"
It was Texas A&M's fault for this game, don't blame the refs. They allowed Memphis to get 5 shots on that last possession without grabbing a board, that's a bit insane. Add to the fact that Acie Law missed a layout prior to this, the Aggies have noone to blame but themselves.
