Like I said, I accept the fact he's a rookie. But he's showing some bad signs, really bad signs, especially his shot attempts vs. points scored. I expect him to improve, but I think entering the draft he was overrated and as his rookie season has shown, he has A LOT to work on before he nearly reaches the star status people said he would. But what's particularly surprising is the fact he's playing so many minutes and is so ineffective.
At this point I just hope he's a role player. This is a horrible team for him. We're going to be Run N Gun when Felton develops and that isn't the type of offense he can survive in. He just looks scared out there now. Whenever he gets the ball he either immediately passes the ball up top to reset or chucks up a long jumper. When he's not scared though he can be a good player. He, Carroll, BK, Herrmann, and Hollins could form a decent second unit next year We better not pick anymore players off of marketability
His lack of quickness/athleticism was really glaring in the game against Toronto. He can always get his shot off, because of his height and release. But whenever he drives, he has to use his forearm to get any sort of separation. He really didn't beat anyone with his first step. And on defense, he doesn't use his legs at all. He reaches with his hands way too much and, I'm not sure if it was lack of conditioning or laziness, but he just didn't get in the defensive stance when facing up an opponent.
You know this guy was doomed to be overrated when the Dirk/Larry Bird comparrisons started flying in during draft time. They should have compared him to Dunleavy Jr. or something, then he'd be surprising, maybe? I'm joking. I think because Morrison is slow, it's going to take him some time to adjust. The motor, killer instinct, and the skill level is there but he really needs to be become a better shooter in the nba, or guys will just dare him to shoot and he'll become a catch and shoot role player. Part of Morrison's game is he can create his own shot, but if he can't do it in the nba, then there goes a big part of his game. We know the guy can flat out ball against college level competition, but he needs to do it at the nba level or he won't make it as a star.
I would also like to point out that in 15 minutes - half of Morrison's playing time - Renaldo Balkman is slightly more efficient than Adam Morrison. This doesn't take into account Balkman's intangibles and Morrison's lack thereof. Go figure.
...or his role. Or the talent level of the team. I'm not very high on Morrison, but I don't really see what that comparison shows. Morrison is a better player than Balkman.
Just to show Balkman isn't a bust, lol. Why is Morrison the better player? Because he is capable of doing better than he is right now? Based on what both players have shown their rookie seasons, Balkman is outplaying Morrison in half of his minutes.
