Man, I don't see how that couldn't have been broken. It looked like it was hanging off almost and the reactions from the players said everything (Al Jefferson's in particular). You could hear him screaming in both vids and it was audible even over the crowd. I'm praying its not as bad as that article suggests, because I've loved watching this dude since he's gotten here. Hope he gets well soon. Both of the Spaniards have been taken off the court in a stretcher this season. Our record doesn't really reflect it, but we have had some real bad luck with injuries this year (especially the past week or so).
Man, a team that lacks defense can't afford to lose one of its better defenders going into the playoffs.
Ouch. I watched it live and I'm not watching it again. It would have been really nice to have him in the playoffs but, I rather have him healthy for next season. Injury bug has hit us. Get well Garbo ( & Andrea)
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">TORONTO (CP) - Toronto Raptors forward Jorge Garbajosa was scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday for a season-ending ankle injury, as the Raptors were left to deal with the loss of another key player in their push to the playoffs. Less than a week after fellow rookie Andrea Bargnani underwent an appendectomy that could cost him the rest of the regular season, Garbajosa suffered the gruesome ankle injury late in Toronto's 95-87 loss to the Celtics. ''It's not something that you want to experience at this stage of the season or any point of the season,'' Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo said after practice Tuesday. ''Obviously Jorge was a big part of everything that we've done . . . this is the kind of thing that happens in an NBA season. ''It's unpredictable and you try to do what you can to overcome things and that's what the team's focus is right now.'' He's out approx. 6 months. (From sportsnet) Who do you guys think should replace his starting position? I wanna see mo-pete stepping up but I have a feelin that Sam mitchell will use Juan dixon instead.
i wasnt sure that i saw it correctly on sportscenter this morning, but judging by what you guys have said, i did, and im not watching it again to get a better look. watching livingston's was enough for me, thanks. but that sucks for you guys to lose a guy like garbo. good luck throughout the rest of the way.
Devastating, just plain devastating.... our chances are that much slimmer without Garbo. I was really worried about his long teerm health, but seeing as it's just the ankle and not the knee makes me feel better. Atlhough looking at Grant Hill scares me. I say he takes as much time as possible before coming back, even missign Eurobasket.
Luke Jackson's time to shine Sucks that Garbo will need to rest for the entire season, playoffs AND a few months of next season in order to fully recover. Hoping for a speedy recover but also no rush on coming back.
The NBA's being strict with the youtube videos for some stupid reason. Here's the link to the video from nba.com: Link
Yeah, the screams were pretty loud on the Boston broadcast. I wasn't really paying attention at the time, but his screaming was so loud that it took my attention away from whatever I was doing. Whenever you hear somebody scream like that, you pretty much know right away that they're seriously hurt.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Jorge Garbajosa was released from hospital yesterday and in pretty good spirits according to assistant general manager Maurizio Gherardini. The Raps' starting small forward actually wanted to check himself out of hospital on Tuesday night -- some eight or nine hours following surgery -- but doctors convinced him he still needed to take in some antibiotics and therefore should at least stay the night. Garbajosa suffered a displaced left ankle joint with ligament tear and a fractured fibula on Monday night in Boston as he attempted to block an Al Jefferson shot from behind. Gherardini, who knows Garbajosa as well as anyone on the Raptors outside of perhaps Jose Calderon, said the biggest problem the Raptors will face from here on out will be holding Garbajosa back from pushing things too quickly for his own good. "I have had a few Garbo years under the belt, so I know that will be the problem because he's such a fierce competitor in ever thing he does," Gherardini said. "He is not going to accept the fact mentally that he is injured and we're going to have a tough time making him understand that he is injured. He's like that. "Somehow, we need to get across to Jorge that he has to slow down and take it one step at a time," Gherardini said. "He is feeling better hour by hour." </div> Garbo Antsy, Already
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Marks said Garbajosa had two 60-mm screws inserted in his ankle as part of the surgery that lasted a total of an hour and a half and <font size=""3"">he will probably be walking three months from now. He will need at least another three months of rehab before he's ready to play.</font></div> From the article above. 6 months is the estimate for his return.
Garbo myths flourish already <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Facing Tuesday's 1 1/2-hour surgery to repair the gruesome lower-leg injury that fractured his fibula and spun his left foot to an inhuman angle, Jorge Garbajosa was asked for his preference of anaesthesia. There were, the story goes, two options: the full-body knockout or a needle in the lower back to numb everything below the waist. "Garbo says to the doctor, `Just give me the back shot because I want to see what you're doing,'" said Maurizio Gherardini, the Raptors assistant general manager, flashing a broad smile as he told the tale. "That's the kind of guy he is." Garbajosa was undeniably being mythologized yesterday by those who know him best. The other joke was that the hearty Spaniard would have opted to have the surgery done on the cold hardwood floor in Boston where his first NBA season ended Monday night if it would shorten his rehab by a day. So take the accounts of superhuman will with a grain of salt, but the sentiment that runs through them is sincere. </div> Link Pretty entertaining article by Feschuk about the perception of Garbajosa. Gerardhini's a joker.
I just now saw this injury because I thought he only sprained his ankle. It definetly looked painful, but it was watchable for me. I don't like to see these kind of injuries but they're part of life and we have to live through them. Get well soon Garbo....
