<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Suns coach Mike D'Antoni says the race for the NBA's Most Valuable Player still is between Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki, despite reports of a third contender. "Who's the third?" D'Antoni asked Wednesday. "I love Kobe," D'Antoni said of Bryant, answering his own question. "I think Kobe is great. I just don't know if (the Lakers have) played well enough."</div> Source Kobe is just never good enough, now is he?
Not this season, compared to Dirk, and Nash (although the chanses of Nash winning *should* be veeeery slim).
I don't feel he's in the MVP race, this team isn't good enough. We're wasting his prime with crap talent around him. Smush Parker? Sasha Vujacic? Brian Cook? If we could've stayed healthy and kept our 4th or 5th seed, then you could've made a strong argument, but not anymore. Injuries that disrupted our chemistry killed any shot. Now if the NBA had an offensive player of the year award, no doubt. They basically do, though...leading the league in PPG.
i agree with d'antoni, but kobe deserves an mvp as much as dirk and nash, but his team is in the lower half of the playoff seeds and considering the way we've played throughout the season (losing to crap teams and not playing any defense) and our win/loss record, people wont vote kobe for mvp, even though he probably deserves it, its hard for people to see through all the negativity.

lol F d'antoni but hes right cuz the Lakers wont even be winning 50 games so theres no way he can be included but if it wasnt about that and it was about stats he would get it anytime over those two

Many people don't even know how many MVPs Jordan had; or that Kareem has more. It doesn't matter what the writers do with that trophy.
In my opinion, the MVP is highly overrated anymore. It's been a complete joke for a while recently. For JKidd not to get it a few years ago was ridiculous, Nash winning it twice in a row was bogus, hell, Shaq only having only one is just insane.
The MVP award has turned from an award for the most valuable PLAYER to pretty much an award for the best player on the team with the best record. Seriously...I mean this year I have a tough time thinking of who to vote for (without my bias of course), BUT the way I WILL think of it is..take the best player/leader off their respective team and see how different they play, both record wise AND quality/compeititiveness-wise (not a word, but its midnight lol). But that's just me. love it or hate it lol

MVP= Most Valuable Player. Kobe= 30.8ppg Nowitzki= 24.9ppg Nash= 18.8ppg If big D reaches 70 wins, then the German is your MVP. Nash cannot possibly win 3 in a row. Take out Nowitzk and Nash from their teams, they are still a top 5 nba playoff team. Take Kobe out, the Lakers and the Celtics rivalry will be reborn. Kobe is your MVP hands down. If he leads his Lakers to the second round against my Spurs then he is hands down the MVP.

The fact that you point out the scoring averages is irrelevant.
