Meh, this is the reason I hate living in the Mid-West, tornadoes. For the next three hours I'm going to have to be on alert for a tornado warning as will anyone else in six other counties across the state. I feel bad for all those people that have lost their lives in these weather conditions since early February across the US, that's really tragic and sad. I mean even people in New Mexico have been going through hell, that's crazy. I think something like 22 deaths in February and over 25 now in March. Let's hope for the best tonight for everyone across Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. Stay safe everyone and be cautious. I'm off for tonight. http://www.weather.com Search Chicago, Illinois or Joliet, Illinois for details
I agree. It's sad to see people die because of this weather. Its almost unstoppable and people lose so much. Luckily for me, I live in Calgary which is pretty much one of the safest places to be regarding weather conditions. Calgary's basically the Denver of Canada, because like them we're elevated about a mile high and we have the Rocky Mountains. Here in Calgary we can't get hurricanes/typhoons because we aren't near water, we can't get earthquakes because we're elevated too high, we can't get tornadoes because we have the rocky mountains and alot of hills protecting us. The worse thing Calgary gets hit with is a bad blizzard which most people are used to.
I feel ya man. I went through Tornado weather earlier tonight. Rained like hell and the wind was crazy hard. Thankfully, nothing touched down in my area and the weather is now gone, at least in my part of Iowa, not sure about the rest of it.
The weather wasn't as horrible as they predicted, at least here around Joliet. I know a tornado touched down on the northside of Chicago, but no damages have been reported. I turned off my computer expecting the worst until midnight, now we just have a tornado watch again even though the storms have passed. I'm not sure, but I suppose they're expecting something else to spawn. I hope not for everyone's sake. Good thing you got home safe, Moo. I'm going to keep a watch until midnight or whenever the watch expires, then head to sleep. <div class="quote_poster">Iggy Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I agree. It really doesn't matter much for the surface as they can even touch down on water as we've seen in places as strange as Scotland. Don't forget a tornado even hit Salt Lake City before. The reason you don't get them is actually because you fall out of an area in which warm air collides with cool air from the north. This usually creates funnel clouds. This is what creates the super cells that can spawn tornadoes. The only areas in Canada that can get tornadoes are from Ottawa to Montr?al. Weather experts like to call that the "mini-tornado alley." However, you are in an area that can possibly have major earthquakes. There's really no escaping natural disasters. We also are in an area that can cause major Earthquakes. Many people don't know about the New Madrid plate that is supposedly one the most unstable areas on this planet. If it causes a major Earthquake along the Miss River as scientists predict could happen at anytime, we could see something with a magnitude of up to 12.0!!
Yea, I kept a look at the weather most of the afternoon before taking off for town not too long ago. I was making damn sure that the weather was done, and it is. Haven't had any adverse weather for bout 5 or 6 hours now. Tomorrow is looking pretty good, no bad weather on the horizon, so it leads me to think that the worst is behind us for now.

Strange enough though, they expect us to have snow showers on Wednesday.
That's odd. We're going to be dropping to the mid 30s next week, but no word about snow. For that matter, it's looking to be a rather clear week. Just wondering, but how from Iowa are you?

I actually live closer to Indiana and I only live a few miles from the prison used in that show Prison Break. I bet there isn't much snow though despite what the weather experts say.
I'm only about an hour and a half from Moline, which is by and far the closest part of Illinois to us. As for a more urban area...I'm probably around 5ish hours from Chicago.
Hmmm... last night I was about to make a post about how safe we have it here, no earthquakes, volcanos, tornados etc. but today we're on a Tsunami Alert
