Now I am not saying that these guys are currently better than Favre in his prime, but if I was to take any QB this year, I would take all of those above Favre. Heck, I'd even conisder throwing in Delhomme and Jake Plummer. I think that when the game is on the line, I'd rather have one of those QB's this year than Favre. Hear me out on this... Who was it that lost the game against the Eagles a few back? It was Favre making a bad pass. How many times last year did Favre lose a game by taking one of his famous gambles, but actually losing the gamble for a change? I remember a certain Monday night game in which Favre got destroyed because his gambles didn't pay off. Favre will still make plays, he'll still wow people, and if Madden is broadcasting, there will still be fawning over arm strength, but given a one year outlook, its time to recognize that while Favre will win you some games and put a smile on your face from a great play, he's going to make his share of costly mistakes.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (vikingfan)</div><div class='quotemain'>Who was it that lost the game against the Eagles a few back? It was Favre making a bad pass. .</div> and the 4th and 26 play. I'd take all the QB's you listed above before Favre too but I don't think that's the point of this post. A lot of people think he should just quit. Why? Warren Moon played into his 40's. Marino and Elway played longer. Favre will be 37 and he's arguably in better physical shape than all of those I just named. The fact that some people think Favre is washed is ridiculous when he could probably start on 10-15 other teams in the NFL today. I think that's the point PA is trying too make and it's certainly valid.

Mark Brunell's 85.9 QB rating was much higher than Farve's Michael Vick-like 70.9. (actually Michael Vick had a higher QB rating (73.1) than Favre.) Brunell had more Tds (23-20) and MUCH FEWER ints (10-29). Mark Brunell was much better than Brett Favre last year and that's an INDISPUTABLE Truth.

And Favre not so sure.. but i have learned never count out Brett Favre.. but my money would be on brunell at this moment.. but only for the better all around year
If we are looking at QB ratings, I too would put money on Brunell. Don't get me wrong - Brunell has a wet noodle for an arm, but he doesn't make as many mistakes as Favre does. The Packers seem to be reeling a little with infighting and other problems - the Redskins on the other hand are thriving. I think Brunell has all the weapons he needs, is in a good system, and will succeed again this year. @porky - the only reason I think Favre should quit is to preserve his legacy. Elway retired on a high note...Marino, not so much, but I also thought that Marino's final years were kind of depressing. Favre has done pretty much everything a pro QB could hope to do. The Pack is not going anywhere this year, and if nothing else, I think they would be best served developing their young talent and rebuilding. As it is now, Favre will just be frustrated in a system that needs to be reworked. The pressure on Favre is a bit unfair, but for someone who has been as successful as he has, its expected and hoped that he retire on a happy note, not a season of frustrations and another 70 QB rating.
I'd take Favre over Brunnell. I think Favre had less to work with offensively last season. No Walker, injured O-line. Washington had more weapons and Brunnell still couldn't make it happen when it mattered against Seattle.

I think this team is much improved from last year especially if they stay healthy. If GB can end up with 7 or 8 wins, which I think is reachable, then Favre's legacy will be find. One thing Favre has that Marino didn't was a Super Bowl.

Farve is washed up. It is time for you to move on . . . unless you made a deal with farve not to.
I can't say that I care enough about Favre vs Brunell to wager anything. I do think that Favre is a first ballot Hall of Famer, but the 29 interceptions last year look like a pretty bright red warning flag to me. I just think that dismissing Brunell so easily is insulting to a very good player and not based in reality. The reality is that Brunell played much better than Favre last year. If you stuck Favre on the Redskins, would he outplay Brunell? I'm not sure. Favre has a stronger arm, but Brunell is doing a much better job a protecting the ball. How important is protecting the ball in winning football games? Go ahead and start dogging on Marino in order to take attention from the real topic at hand which is Favre's declining ability. If the Pack had a really good team, then I would say that Favre should stay because he is, currently, the Packs best option at QB. I don't see the Packers being very good and I'm not sure what they will accomplish this year by having Favre stay. I will point out a few things about any Favre vs Marino slams. Favre didn't win that Super Bowl ring by himself and, at least, Marino's last game was a playoff game.

Talk of legacy's always annoy me because its better to put a spot on a legacy then to think to himself, I couldve played a couple of more years. Players like Aikman and Sanders struggle with that all the time.

He's the greatest passer to ever play the game but the way you feel about Marino (jumping to his defense like you just did) is the same way all Packer fans feel about Favre. We'll jump for his defense. Favre needs to mentally play the game better. If he does then I think he should play. If he can't take it and continues to "think" he has to do to much, then he should retire. I personally would bet that Favre has a much better season and out plays Brunnel this year even with the talent differences on the teams.

Comparing Brett & Dan @ the twilight of their careers is unfair IMO. Marino was never the most gifted athlete. Dan was/is the anti-Vick and that is indisputable. At the end of his career, Dan still had the passion and fire but his limited mobility had definitely diminished whereas I question Favre's emotional state as opposed to his physical skills. Just look at his statements towards the end of the season and early in the offseason. Also, it took "forever" for him to decide if he had anything left in the tank. For years, Favre was my 2nd fave after Dan. I still love watching Brett. He & Peyton play are the last of a breed. After they go, we are left w/ Vick & Vince Young. That thought doesn't exactly fill me w/ any excitement. I can only hope that Eli & Lineart rise up so we aren't deluged w/ athletes lined up behind Center as opposed to QB's.
I think if Favre has some talent around him he still is a top tier QB but when he trys to hard he gets in trouble. As far as him hurting his legacy who will remember his last year. Does anyone remember that last play-off game Marino played, what was it 70-something. All I remember is his great release and passion and the good days
wow i'm surprised no one put the Jets up here.... i'm thinkin i'd rather have Favre under center THIS YEAR over Clemons or Pennington. as for the Redskins, i'm sure Dan Synder would probably throw Favre a 16 year $500 million deal for Favre to play there. But Brunell played well last year for the 'Skins if he plays like that this year idk if i'd have Favre for him.
Despite Favre's emotional state & allegedly diminshing physical skills, he is currently the best QB in the NFC north. Brad Johnson is a distant 2nd.
I think that solely using last year to judge how good Favre is, is unfair. Favre is used to leading his team to victory and last year I dont think that it would of been possible for any QB to do that. But Favre being the leader that he is did what it took to give them a chance. Yes, he did throw a lot of interceptions but I'd say at least 99% of those could of been completed and 50% should of been. When you dont have a decent (to put it lightly) running game you have to pass, and defenses knew that, which made it tougher, and many times being left with only one reliable reciever (Donald Driver) made it even tougher. Do I think Favre still has "it"? absolutely. Do I think that most teams out there would be better with Favre as QB? absolutely. Do I think that the packers will be better this year? absoultely. Do I think the Packers have a chance to make a playoff run this year? ABSOLUTELY!!!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Packersfan)</div><div class='quotemain'>Yes, he did throw a lot of interceptions but I'd say at least 99% of those could of been completed and 50% should of been.</div> At least 99%? So 1% could not have been completed? Why weren't they completed? The reason Favre threw so many INTs last year was because he made poor decisions. You can blame your receivers only so much, and you certainly CAN NOT blame your coaching staff. A QB has to play within the system, and if the system called for a pass-heavy offense, than Favre should have realized that he needed to be more careful. INT's are one of the biggest game killers to an offense, and Favre was responsible for his poor throws/decisions. I don't like to hate on Favre, but you have to recognize a spade for a spade - Favre is/was a great QB who had a horrible season last year where he did not play up to his reputation. It has called in some question as to whether he can continue to lead his team the way he used to. A QB who does too much is not a good QB.
I wish there was a way to see all 29 of those interceptions on game film. I know that at least half of them were directly Favre's fault because of bad decision making. I won't dispute that. I do remember some pretty freak things, though. I mean, he had four or five picks in one game against Cincinnati. That was just a bizarre, bizarre game. I remember a few were tipped or batted in the air at the line of scrimmage. I remember a few being "jump balls" that the defender wanted more. In the end, interceptions always fall on the QB, regardless of the reason. Favre owns up to them, so I don't see any reason to break my back defending him for having a bad year. I think he'll rebound this year.

I think he'll play much better this year. He'll still throw 15+ INT's but with more than 3 WR's playing he should get at least 20+ TD's in my opinion. Last year all we had was Driver Ferguson and Chatman. Ferguson missed a few games and we used Chatman. This year we should have 6 healthy WR's on the roster. 3 healthy TE's. If the RB's get healthy which I think we can, Favre should have more than enough weapons to have a solid season. In my opinion the weak link on this team is it's interior line. We're running a new scheme and we have young guys who fit but they still have to learn the scheme and that may take time to gel.
