MVP Media Pick: Dirk Nowitzki My pick: Kobe Bryant The Lakers without Bryant are worse then the Suns and Mavs without Nash and Nowitzki. COY: Jerry Sloan He has done an excellent job with the Jazz this year. He has never won this award even though he has coached for 19 years. ROY: Brandon Roy No one really stands out this year for rookie of the year. DPOY: Kevin Garnett Great rebounder/Shot blocker. MIP: Monta Ellis From 6 points a game to 16 points a game. Has really helped the Warriors in many situations this year. 6th Man: Leandro Barbosa Gives the Suns a boost of the bench. I would have voted for Ginobli, but he has started too many games this year compared to Barbosa.
MVP: Kobe Bryant COY: Jerry Sloan ROY: Brandon Roy DPOY: Kevin Garnett MIP: Kevin Martin 6th Man: Leandro Barbosa While Kobe is not likely to win, he deserves it. For itstance, when other players are asked who is the hardest player to defend in the NBA, their first response is always "Besides Kobe?". Bryant is the top player in the league right now and definitely is worthy of the MVP.
How do you guys figure Kobe is MVP? His team is doing about the same or worse than last year, and his numbers are down from last year. If he didn't win last year, why this year?
MVP: Kobe Bryant He won't get it because of his teams record, but he deserves it. COY: Jeff Van Gundy Despite not having Yao for the better part of the year, and Mcgrady for several games, the Rockets still had a great year. ROY: Brandon Roy This last month of the year it has been Tyrus, but as far as all year it goes to Roy. He was really the only rookie who got a consistent chance to contribute, and produced. DPOY: N/A I really have no idea who deserves the defensive player of the year this year. No one has really stood out. I would throw Jermaine O'Neal, Ben Wallace, and KG out there. MIP: Kevin Martin The guy had a great year. 6th Man: Leandro Barbosa
MVP: Dirk Nowitzki COY: Jerry Sloan ROY: Brandon Roy DPOY: Tim Duncan MIP: Kevin Martin 6th Man: Ronny Turiaf (extreme bias )
I'm picking based on what I think will happen, not on what I think should happen: MVP: Dirk Nowitzki COY: Jeff Van Gundy DPOY:Jermaine O'neal ROY: Brandon Roy MIP: Monta Ellis 6th Man: Leandro Barbosa EOY: Bryan Colangelo
MVP: Dirk Nowitzki COY: Jerry Sloan DPOY:I'm not too sure about this one. ROY: Brandon Roy (although I wish it was Bargnani) MIP: Monta Ellis 6th Man: Leandro Barbosa EOY: Bryan Colangelo

If he didn't win last year, why this year?
The West is more competitive this year, Bryant's been leading this team with less help than last season, and the only major stat of his that's down is his scoring. His rebounds, assists, and percentages are all up. Besides, we're not the same people who gave Nash the MVP these past two years. A lot of fans think that Bryant should have won it both years. Here are my awards with my prediction of who the media will choose underneath - MVP: Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers) - He's the best player in the league, not many people will question that. The only reason guys like Nash and Nowitzki are in the conversation is because people think the MVP award is something different than an award for the best player in the league. They think it's for the best player on the best team, the player who they like the most, or some other bogus, subjective definition that fits their liking. The fact of the matter is that Bryant's the best player and the most valuable to his team (take him off the Lakers, and they're competing for Oden, easily), which are the two most commonly used qualifications used for the MVP award. Media's likely pick: Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas) COY: Avery Johnson (Dallas) - Jerry Sloan would have been my pick up until about a month ago, but he's been too stubborn in his refusal to play his young guys, and that's cost them a lot of games down the most crucial stretch of the season. Johnson, on the other hand, has kept his team consistently on top of the league. We knew that the Mavs would be good, but did anyone honestly see a potential 70 win season in sight? He's got talented players, but he still gets the most out of them. Media's likely pick: Jerry Sloan (Utah) ROY: Brandon Roy (Portland) - This was the easiest pick of the bunch and doesn't require that much of an explanation given the competition Roy is up against, but I just want to say what a sad year it was for rookies. I said it before the draft and I'll say it again, the class of '06 is the worst class of rookies since the Swift/Fizer/Moiso class of '00. Media's likely pick: Brandon Roy (Portland) DPOY: Shane Battier (Houston) - People cite Jeff Van Gundy and Tracy McGrady for Houston's success without Yao Ming, and both are very deserving of the credit they get, but Shane Battier is also largely responsible for that success, as well as the Grizzlies' collapse. Is it any coincidence that exchanging Battier for Gay took the Grizzlies from a 50-win team to the worst team in the league whereas the Rockets suddenly became the league's top defensive squad? It's about time the guy gets respect for being the defensive game-changer that he is. Media's likely pick: Marcus Camby (Denver) MIP: Kevin Martin (Sacramento) - Players like Deron Williams, Monta Ellis, etc. improved, but a lot of that has to do with an increased amount of playing time and the natural progression that second year players make. Martin has been in the league longer, and he only increased his minutes per game by about nine minutes this season, yet his statistics all across the board took major leaps. Media's likely pick: Kevin Martin (Sacramento) 6th man: Leandro Barbosa (Phoenix) Media's likely pick: Leandoro Barbosa (Phoenix) All-NBA 1st Team G - Steve Nash (Phoenix) G - Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers) F - Kevin Garnett (Minnesota) F - Dirk Nowtizki (Dallas) C - Tim Duncan (San Antonio) All-NBA 2nd Team G - Gilbert Arenas (Washington) G - Tracy McGrady (Houston) F - LeBron James (Cleveland) F - Carlos Boozer (Utah) C - Amare Stoudemire (Phoenix) All-NBA 3rd Team G - Jason Kidd (New Jersey) G - Vince Carter (New Jersey) F - Carmelo Anthony (Denver) F - Chris Bosh (Toronto) C - Dwight Howard (Orlando)

MVP: Kobe Bryant COY: Jeff Van Gundy DPOY:Timmy Duncan ROY: Brandon Roy MIP: Kevin Martin 6th Man: Leandro Barbosa

MVP: Dirk Nowitzki I think Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant are def. right there to win it, but the NBA will just look at what the Mavs have done this season and point their reasoning there. COY: Jerry Sloan Just looking at the improvement the Jazz have made this season with Sloan at the helm, he has to win the award. ROY: Brandon Roy No brainer. DPOY: Kevin Garnett MIP: Monta Ellis 6th man: Leandro Barbosa EOY: Bryan Colangelo
This is who I think deserves the awards. M.V.P: Kobe Bryant Coach Of The Year: Scott Skiles Rookie Of The Year: Brandon Roy Defensive Player: Shane Battier Most Improved: Kevin Martin 6th Man: Leandro Barbosa
Very surprised by the lack of selections for Sam Mitchell. He has done a very good job this year in helping Toronto to their first ever division title. MVP: Dirk Nowitzki COY: Sam Mitchell DPOY: Tim Duncan ROY: Brandon Roy MIP: Kevin Martin 6th Man: Leandro Barbosa On the subject of Kobe. He may well be the best scorer in the league but you don't give the MVP to a guy who's team is barely above 500 and in the 7th spot. Not matter how good this conference is. I fail to see how Kobe is more valuable than anybody else. Even without him they would be poor. Not much difference than they are now. They are poor either way. Yes they have had injury problems but what did doesn't? there isn't a better scorer than Kobe in the NBA, does that mean he is the best? highly debatable. I would still rank Tim Duncan ahead of Kobe in terms of best overall player. Dirk deserves the MVP for the season he and the Mavericks have had. You must reward the team who have had a record breaking season. He has been a big part of that.

Legacy Wrote

MVP Media Pick: Dirk Nowitzki My pick: Kobe Bryant The Lakers without Bryant are worse then the Suns and Mavs without Nash and Nowitzki.
The lakers with Kobe are also worse than the Suns and Mavs with Nash or Nowitzki. So, this doesnt prove anything.
Well the way I look at the award, is what it stands for, "Most Valuable Player", theres no doubt in my mind that that is Kobe Bryant. Theres no way this team even thinks about the Playoffs without Kobe Bryant in that lineup. I dont think Dirk deserves it, yeah, he is probally the Mavericks most valuable player, but I feel as though they would still have success without him, maybe not AS much, but if you take Dirk out of that line up, you still have quality players and all stars like Jerry Stackhouse, Josh Howard, Jason Terry, Devin Harris etc. Steve Nash has had his moment in the spotlight regarding MVP awards, thats not to say it should discount him this season, but I mean look at who he is playing with also, Marion, Stoudemire, Diaw, Bell, Barbosa etc. Kobe is playing with a band of misfits under one of the biggest idiot GM's in the league, and still maintaining a winning record. I think that deserves some recognition, it really is the definition of 'most valuable player'. No one takes the game into their hands like Kobe Bryant does.
MVP: Dirk Nowizki, as much as it hurts me to say it. I believe MVP should be from one of the top 3 teams in either conference and Dirk's team was by far the best in the league and will be one of the best regular season teams ever record-wise. COY: Sam Mitchell DPOY: Marcus Camby (?) ROY: Brandon Roy MIP: My pick would be Andris Biedrins though I'd bet on Kevin Martin, possibly Monta Ellis if the Warriors make the playoffs. Biedrins' stats aren't as sexy as Martin and Monta's but I think he was the most improved of the three, definitely the most important to his team out of the three. He went from being a 4 pts/4 rebs backup C getting 15 minutes a game to a 10/10/2 starting C in the west, probably a top 10 C in the league. Ellis and Martin were both pretty good last year, they did improve their game but much of their success was due to other players leaving allowing them to get more playing time. Biedrins showed flashes of being a good C but he actually put it all together this year and went from being a scrub to a 20 year old quality C in one offseason. 6th Man: Leandro Barbosa
