<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">SEATTLE (AP) -- Bonzi Wells' trying first season with the Houston Rockets took a strange turn on Monday night when the veteran guard didn't join his team for their game against the Seattle SuperSonics. Wells was not with the team during their walkthrough on Monday morning and wasn't in the arena before the game, coach Jeff Van Gundy said. Wells left a voice message for Rockets' athletic trainer Keith Jones saying he felt he was disrupting the chemistry of the team, and Van Gundy was unable to get in touch with Wells. "He's not here tonight. I don't know where he's at. I haven't talked to him," Van Gundy said. "I want to make sure he's safe first." </div> http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Au2q...ov=ap&type=lgns
I was just going to post that, but duddeee.... sounds very serious. JVG makes it seem like Bonzi is going to commit suicide....
Wierd. That story's got a definite horror movie vibe around it. JVG might've "cut" him from the roster.
Jesus. Hope Bonzi won't do anything crazy. He looked like he was having fun with the bench in the Sacramento game though.
I think he's frustrated at how JVG's used him. Think about it, you get deactivated on & off all season. Then get thrown back out there a few games back before the playoffs, with very little time to get adjust. It's hard for a player to deal with that kind of pressure, especially when you'll get yanked out the game and yelled at for any mistake you make. JVG's gotta love this. Bonzi played right into his hands. He gave leeway for JVG fans to blame this all on him. Now instead of lookin at the JVG's silly little grudges, they'll be focusing on Bonzi's attitude.
I love how you can twist it to blame it on JVG. How is it his fault? As a pro, you need to learn how to cope with these situations. If JVG doesn't want to play him, live with it. That's all you can do. Cope with the situation until the season is over and get out. It's not JVGs fault that Bonzi came in out of shape and not ready to play. That got him in the doghouse immediately. This is all Bonzi's fault, and this is just pure immaturity and unprofessional on his part. He's pretty much said screw it now. To me, that attitude is pitiful. By doing this, he's playing his way out of money next season. He's only hurting himself by doing stupid stuff like this and to call this all JVGs fault is just dumb.

The guy has been healthy for about 2months and hasn't even been activated. Then when he gets in the game, he's either yanked out and screamed at for making a mistake or minimized to just a decoy. That's not what he came here for. He came here to make a impact on the team and hopefully win a championship. It was clear from day one, JVG felt that we didn't need Bonzi and could win by jackin up 3's. Call it dellusional or whatever, but that's what JVG feels in his heart. Bonzi can definatley help the team, but JVG wasn't willing to give him a significant chance to get acclamated to the system. JVG doesn't have the patient to let a player get his legs back.
Just a question. If you guys don't need Bonzi Wells, then why did you sign him in the first place? This sort of reminds me of Stro Swift a couple of seasons ago

Bonzi's value significantly reduces with our two stars healthy.

Van Gundy didn't kick Wells off the team, Wells did it himself, and before you know anything more than what we've gathered from the papers, the responsibility here clearly rests on Wells' shoulders.
I bash JVG for certain decisions he makes, but he gets no blame here. Bonzi has had a history of "attitude" problems before he was even on the rockets so that should tell you whose fault it is.

What chance? He's been healthy for awhile now. JVG made a choice to keep him inactive for a significant period of time before throwing him to the wolves on the court. The margin of error was CLEARLY smaller for Bonzi than any other player on the team. Skip throws the ball away and gets rewarded with more playin time, Bonzi throws the ball away and gets yanked out the game. Luther jacks up 3's at will, Bonzi misses a defensive assignment and doesn't play the next game. Bonzi never had a chance on this team because JVG was never gonna give him leeway for mistakes. It was alwayz "commit a turnover, ur out". I don't agree with that, and niether should any of you I think some of you guys (and the media) were literally WAITING for Bonzi to screw up so you could blame this all on him. Bonzi tried to reason with JVG, but he came to the conclusion that even at his best he won't see much action on a JVG ran team. <div class="quote_poster">durvasa Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">It was a cheap deal, and it also served as insurance if McGrady went down for a significant period of time. JVG's offense is a jumpshooting offense with Tmac doing 95% of all the playmaking. It's gonna eventually wear Tmac down, and Bonzi will be sorely missed. I'm sure you'll point to something different. <div class="quote_poster">THE DREAM Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I bash JVG for certain decisions he makes, but he gets no blame here. JVG loves this right here. He was never gonna give Bonzi the benefit of the doubt, even when on the team. To Bonzi's credit, he did try to approach JVG multiple times this season.

Bonzi played terribly in both games and asked to be taken out of the Sacramento one. He got 23 minutes against Portland, so his leash mustn't have been as short as you'd like to believe. He blew it by playing like crap. With Alston and Head, it's different because they play bigger roles than Bonzi on the team. If Rafer does get yanked, who do the Rockets play at point? I don't recall you being much of a Lucas fan either; and Head's been shooting the ball extremely well the past few games, so I don't know what you're getting at. With Bonzi, you can take him out and put in Snyder and there won't be much of a dropoff. And yes, I'm not a fan of Bonzi and I don't agree with the way he has carried himself for most of this season, but I certainly haven't been "waiting" for this. If anything, you're the one who's definitely waiting for JVG to screw up so you could say you were right all along.
JVG should have played Bonzi from the beginning of the season any and every game he was ready to go. All I can think about is when teams like the Jazz or Dallas try to go small and put Fisher or Harris at SG when T-Mac rests up...or when T-Mac doesn't take advantage of them. Head Bonzi Battier Howard Yao I don't think we would go on those droughts when T-Mac is on the bench. Edit: I think Hayes-Bonzi could have really developed some chemistry together. Bonzi is good at hitting the open man inside when he drives.
<div class="quote_poster">Rock4life Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Correction. Bonzi's value reduces in JVG's system.</div> He was never a good fit in our system. I thought Bonzi could still potentially be an asset in a limited role off the bench in the playoffs. But if he doesn't want to be a part of the team in whatever role is asked of him, I'm not going to worry about it. I'd rather support the players who actually give a damn about helping the team win. Anyways, good luck to Bonzi finding a team next year. That should be interesting. <div class="quote_poster">igotask8board Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">All I can think about is when teams like the Jazz or Dallas try to go small and put Fisher or Harris at SG when T-Mac rests up...or when T-Mac doesn't take advantage of them.
