Chris Webber told The Post last night he could see himself retiring if he wins his first NBA title with the Pistons this June.

If he doesn't retire, Webber likely will give the Knicks another chance since he again becomes a free agent, according to a source close to C-Webb.

Webber revealed before facing the Knicks last night he tried to force a trade last summer to New York. The Knicks pursued Webber when he was bought out of his Philly contract in December, but Webber opted for his hometown, Detroit.

"This summer I definitely wanted to come here (to New York), really tried to ask my agents to make things work when I was in Philadelphia," Webber said. "It wasn't working out. With the opportunity to come here (to Detroit), it was a no-brainer. This was the better team and I needed a chance to win a championship."

Asked about his summer free agency, Webber said, "I'm not really looking at this summer. Looking at seeing if I can win a championship right now. Not thinking of next year. If I win one, I just might disappear. You know what I'm saying."

Asked if he meant disappear as in retire, Webber said, "I got to win a championship this year and I might then disappear. I don't even know." </div>

I don't understand what Webber's desire is to play for a bottom dwelling team at this point in his career.

I don't understand why he would make these comments at this critical stage of the season.

Webber needs to retire. Why would you want to play for the Knicks after you win a championship? I guess he is just looking to sit on the bench and collect a check.

He's good friends with Isiah and was strongly considering signing with us back in 2001 when he was a free agent.

Still not really a good thing to say if you're signed with another team.

He said his focus is on winning the 'ship this year. And if thats the case then hes retiring. I say what a perfect way to end your career on a good note. If we lose hes gone which I could believe. Knicks would be a bad decision on his part. I'm scared as a Pistons fan we must win this year.

    EXACTLY.

Why the heck is Webber saying all of this in the first place?

Forget Webber let's focus on another young impact player!!!!! Webber will only warm up the bench cause of injury that always happend when you are with the knicks.

Sounds like Tiki Barber. I'd go with retirement if I was Webber, I don't see him contribute much with how the Knicks have been since Isiah Thomas took over this team.
