This is the most attention Imus has had in his entire career.</div>

[IMG] Ding ding ding, VC is the winner of this thread.

I'm not going to blast Imus again, because I've been doing it all week and you guys seem to have already covered those bases.

What I find just unbelievably stupid and ironic about this is the fustercluck it's become. A nutjob says 'nappy headed, tattooed rough looking girls', and it turns into a race battle and the #1 story in newspapers, the evening news, hell, I think Bush is preparing a speech to the entire nation regarding the incident. Guys, just stfu about it and he'll fade away! (not speaking to anyone in particular, I'm just frustrated with the coverage he's getting) Does no one else see that all we're doing now is debating semantics and pointing fingers and talking about how far America still has to go in realizing racial tolerance? If we would concentrate on educating people and actually multiculturalizing ourselves rather than just pissing and moaning every time some chump opens his mouth, we'd be FAR better off.

I'm more disgusted with the press this situation has received than I am with his comments. And that's not to say I don't think he's an asshole - he's been an asshole for years, these comments shouldn't come as a suprise to anyone. The guy's like Rush Limbaugh or Gregg Doyell: they're only around because they're so good at making people angry. Just stop giving people like Imus the satisfaction that they can say five words and become the biggest celebrity in the country for a week.

And for the record, I listened to most of Sharpton's 'inverview' with him, and it reaffirmed that I dislike him just as much as Imus or Limbaugh. It's just as bad to make a career out of being a racist as it is to make a career out of being a professional rabble rouser like him. I'm not criticizing him for any of his work towards diversifying and helping our nation become more aware of others. But much the same way the word Imus makes me think 'jackass', Sharpton's name just makes me think 'oh God, here we go again'.

In closing, my point is this: look around at what has been accomplished through all of this talk and coverage about the Imus situation. Absolutely fucking nothing. All everyone has done is fight and play the blame game. This makes us a more tolerant and diverse country? No, it just makes it harder for us as a society to move closer to true equality. Just ignore people like Imus and the discussions about him, and maybe they'll start to fade away. Lord knows what we're doing now doesn't help.

The sad part is that he had to be interviewed by sharpton before the media gave it attention. No one likes Sharpton it doesnt matter what race you are. Thats the sad part. A goofball like Sharpton did what a legitimate person shouldve done.

    Rappers degrate women EVERYDAY...

MrJ, you dont make a thread about that. Man, this isn't any big deal to me. Just because its a WHITE man saying that, its offensive. Almost all rappers have said something worst than this. No big deal.

Call Arabs whatever you want. Rag heads, Sand Ni**ers, Camel Jockeys, Towel Heads, carpet riders, etc...reality is we're targetted by a lot of people because of the actions of some morons who believe in "Allah." It's something that we've got to face.

What's the big deal with his comment? Maybe some are? No, but really...what's the problem? MrJ, go make a thread about all the idiot rappers out there saying the same thing. A white man says it and you flip? Get real.

Shock radio is nothing new. Ever heard of probably the most famous shock jock radio host? Howard Stern...he's said "ni**er" plenty of times, complain about him.

His suspension is fine. If they fire him, mind as well cut every rapper from his record deal that calls a woman a hoe, slut, whore, etc.

Imus doesn't deserve a pass for his comments, and history of comments, which cross the line. What's b.s. about his suspension, is it doesn't take place until after this week. The radio station he works for his milking all this media attention to boost their ratings.

I'm also disgusted by the politicians using this to drive their own agendas. It's unbelievable the **** storm this has created in the mass media.

Some comments I heard that are food for thought.

"It's better Imus is an open racist, people know what he's about and if they don't want to listen to his remarks, simply change the station."

If Imus wants to live in his own ignorant world let him, don't give him the attention he wants. He's the one missing out with his backward thinking.

Yea, I agree. The dude doesn't deserve as much attention as he's getting, because in the end he's probably going to benefit from it all.

The only thing I don't understand is how this became a white vs. black kind of thing. Yes, yes, we all know that some rap music is derogatory towards women. But apparently, because a very small percentage of blacks act that way (or at least talk that way) towards women, people throw out this retarded argument that Imus' comments aren't that bad. That makes no sense. If a rapper called the Rutgers basketball team a bunch of "nappy-headed hoes" they'd get caught up in this controversy too. If a black radio host said the same thing, we'd be caught up in the same thing. [sarcasm] But, because black rappers call women hoes, we have every right to look down upon and insult every black woman we see in the street [/sarcasm]. Can't believe that people want to say that the reason he's getting into all this trouble is because he's white. The reason he's in all this trouble is because his comments were senseless, sexist, racist, and directed at a specific group of people. The dude's deserved to be fired for a long time now.

I agree somewhat with that, but when a guy who has a history of saying racial derogatory remarks says something it's different in some ways. I don't appreciate black women being degraded in any form by anyone.

I mean, obviously he's making an ass out of himself with this statement and whatnot, but was there any content there to begin with? I didn't see any.</div>

I take back frequent, but I do watch his show along with Sportscenter, CNN, ABC, NBC, all that in the morning. I dunno, I just loved the Imus guys cause they just sat around and always joked around with the news. Nonetheless, Imus got what he deserved.

Well now seeing CNN, they said MSNBC cancelled his morning show. Well, it was fun while it lasted. [IMG] I can see him getting a show on that Sirius radio now or something.

Everybody is talking about this, so nobody should be calling out Mr J for posting it. If he hadn't we all know someone else would've. I think it's just that this story has been so unbelievably overblown that the backlash has now begun. God I hate American pop culture [IMG] But yeah, it's funny how every show I saw today had some commentary on the Imus situation...a friggin week later. Do we really, truly have nothing better to do? [IMG] This is such a blatant example of a story breaking and everyone trying to get their slice of the fame/recognition/face time that its disgusting.

This isn't the first time Imus has made such comments.

By the way, even though degrading any type of women is wrong in my opinion, rappers don't attack womens college basketball players, they're talking about the women who already degrade themselves by putting themselves "out there", and gold dig, etc.
