<div class="quote_poster">A.F. Venom Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">This isn't the first time Imus has made such comments.

By the way, even though degrading any type of women is wrong in my opinion, rappers don't attack womens college basketball players, they're talking about the women who already degrade themselves by putting themselves "out there", and gold dig, etc.</div>

[IMG] at that last part. Dude, that's double standardizing like CRAZY. Why is everyone mad at Imus? He's a public figure who made sexist (and racist) remarks. Why should it be celebrated when some bum rapper does the EXACT same thing to make money on his records? This is where I have to put a foot down - too many people are ignoring the double standards for the words that Imus used. If you're going to call him dispicable and horrible and ask he be fired, then turn around and listen to a record where FAR worse things are said, you're a damn hypocrite (and I'm not speaking to you there, but people in general).

Oh please. Women who already degrade themselves? Degrading is degrading...plain and simple. If some idiot piece of crap no talent moron rapper who can't speak a lick of proper english calls a woman a hoe, it's acceptable?

Really, no one cares for your sudden dislike of rap.

People like Al Sharpton have taken stands against violent/women degrading rap records, but what can you do when those same women are in the club dancing to the song and buying the CD?

Why don't you just answer the question? The double standards set for people of different race groups is disgusting.

How did it go to double standards for rappers, to double standards for different race groups?

I think there is a difference between something like this from lets say, Jay-Z, who is speaking from experiences he has probably had with trife women in his life:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Too many bitches wanna be ladies, so if you a hoe
I'ma call you a hoe, too many bitches is shady</div>

Than calling a group of college basketball players, "nappy-headed hoes". That has no basis to it at all.

What I'm trying to say is, yes it is wrong for rappers to degrade women. But in comparison to Imus' comments, it's a different context.

    I thought this was well-written:
    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chutney:</div><div class="quote_post">
The only thing I don't understand is how this became a white vs. black kind of thing. Yes, yes, we all know that some rap music is derogatory towards women. But apparently, because a very small percentage of blacks act that way (or at least talk that way) towards women, people throw out this retarded argument that Imus' comments aren't that bad. That makes no sense. If a rapper called the Rutgers basketball team a bunch of "nappy-headed hoes" they'd get caught up in this controversy too. If a black radio host said the same thing, we'd be caught up in the same thing. [sarcasm] But, because black rappers call women hoes, we have every right to look down upon and insult every black woman we see in the street [/sarcasm]. Can't believe that people want to say that the reason he's getting into all this trouble is because he's white. The reason he's in all this trouble is because his comments were senseless, sexist, racist, and directed at a specific group of people. The dude's deserved to be fired for a long time now. </div>

Wait, how does that have anything to do with race? This is a case of what is acceptable for rappers (who are not all black) vs. what is acceptable for this radio host. Both may make derogatory remarks about women and both deserve to be called out on it. I don't understand how you keep thinking that rappers represent an entire demographic of people. They don't.

Wow, so much hostility in this thread.

<div class="quote_poster">Chutney Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Wait, so do you care that he calls Arabs "ragheads" and wants to bomb all Palestinians?</div>

I don't care. People have to accept that we live in America, and people are going to say **** like this. If you don't like it, turn it off.

<div class="quote_poster">MrJ Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I appologize for making a thread about a hot topic in the media for everyone to discuss. It won't happen again. [IMG]</div>

Found it funny that people would point fingers at a guy who started a thread on such a "hot topic." This is why I don't watch the news. Who the hell are they to tell me who/what's hot? Reminds me of that "rapper" from NY.

I hope you mean ... people who think they believe in "Allah," because none of Allah's teachings teach whatever Muslims are known for these days.

Its similar to saying "Pakistani's are terrorist .... middle-easterner's are terrorists" ... you know. We're kind of used to it now. Many Americans dislike Palestinians... and I'd say thats because of they are ignorant, they dont even know the situation over there. And .. as all of us can agree - Imus is ignorant.

    Who cares?

Do you think all the nappy headed white girls on the Rutgers basketball team took offense to Imus comments?

Why do you keep saying who cares?

Obviously people care because people get offended...thats life...people get offended all the time.

If nobody cared about what you say, than I could say whatever without any repercussion.

Thank you for posting that video. Racism is not a one way thing; it can go many seperate ways. The dude who said those comments should have been fired (I can't believe people were clapping), and should have been blasted and riodiculed through the media. Can you imagine if a white person had said that about another race? A brown person? So, why is it if a black person blatantly says "we have to exterminate white people", there is very little uproar about it? Why the double standard?

There's no double standard there. You want to know the reason why he didn't generate as big a controversy as Imus did (btw, people did get pissed off about those comments)? Its because he has no credibility. He's a well-known racist and very few people take his opinion seriously. His audience is limited to other bigots like himself. Its the same reason why David Duke (former KKK leader) doesn't generate a huge amount of controversy every time he insults blacks, Jews, homosexuals, etc. People know the dude has no credibility and they know he's preaching to a bunch of morons who share his same retarded viewpoint. Imus, on the other hand, has a national following and masquerades around as a legitimate political/social radio host. He still has credibility in the eyes of a lot of Americans and his comments deserve a much harsher reaction.

I heard it on the Baltimore ESPN radio and they just announced that CBS radio fired Don Imus. I guess there'll be a link soon.

No, he should go out and do work in the community or speak about the harm of racism or something that enlightens people. That's probably something he wouldn't enjoy, which is more punishment than giving him a vacation, IMO. Firing him and letting him go somewhere else to spew his crap doesn't solve the problem. If he gets to go to satelite radio, he'll have a bigger platform to spew from, and he'll be allowed to make even crazier statements. I can't help but think that this isn't going to hurt him nearly as much as it's intended to [IMG]

you make it sound like he won the lottery or something. trust me, he would MUCH rather that he didn't say those things and still have his job and not have half of America thinking he's a racist.
