Would we praise Kobe Bryant as the GOAT like we do with MJ right now?

Kobe took the majority of his game from MJ, so he'd be a completely different player himself. And the NBA wouldn't be as popular, so he might've gone to college.

If there was no Michael Jordan, the NBA would be a lot different. Who knows what would have happened?

Jordan wasn't consider the GOAT until he started leading his team to championships. So, no.

Too broad of a topic, and a little too hypothetical. Jordan revolutionized sports in general (especially in terms of advertising), so you can't really imagine the NBA being the same without him. To put it into (a much, much broader) context, it's like wondering how the world would have shaped out had the Industrial revolution not taken place.

Well.. Karl Malone woulda got 2 rings, Gary woulda got one more. I think we would be drooling all over him. We'd be comparing the next generation to Kobe, which I think we still will.

God I dunno who would we would consider GOAT, ya gotta go back through history...

It`s weird thinking about what the NBA would be like if there was no MJ.

Okay, it's not like we consider Kobe the 2nd best player in NBA history, so I don't get it. People don't even consider him Top 5, or Top 10 right now career wise, so how would we then consider him the GOAT?

If there was no MJ, it would be the same, it would be Wilt, Kareem, Bird, Russell, Magic, just no MJ in there. Oh, and there would be 6 availiable championships, so someone in the 90's would get some accolades added to their career. I'm thinking Malone and Stockton, Payton too.

Everybody looks at Kobe's fantastic scoring achievements and they start drooling. Yet they seem to forget that their were guys like Gervin, Free and others who put up huge numbers as well. My point is that there are tons of guys out there in NBA history who have put up huge stats and have scored a ton. But the ones that are remembered as the greatest are the ones that put up big numbers and lead their teams to championships (a la Bird, Magic, Jordan, Baylor, Duncan, etc.)

But Elgin Baylor has no championship rings.

What youre saying is a fallacy... i forgot which one but its like saying "if madame curie had not discovered that element, no one else would have"

Thats why if MJ wast the GOAT, then someone would or will be

    Hah.

I remember players mostly for their individual accomplishments, winning championships is so random sometimes.

If Jordan wasn't around; Shaq/Wilt/Kareem/Great Center X would be considered the GOAT. Though, Kobe in his Prime puts him in the top ten of all time at least.

They all have different values and obviously dominant big men are rare.
