Still think we should have kept Monty? Still think Harrington would add less than Dunleavy? ....hate to say it....I TOLD YOU SO!!!
Did wtwalker ever say those things, usds? I figured he's the wait and see kind of guy and he does bring up excellent points and an encyclopedic knowledge of the warriors when he posts. Monty sure wasn't an all-around coach, that's for sure. If he didn't get "his guys" then he's pretty much useless. We needed a guy that was going to fit our "core players" or at least did both halfcourt and open court game. Our "core" players were IMO Jrich and Baron and the verdict was still out on DunMurphy and the rooks. DunMurphy IMO was pretty much useless from day one because neither covered for each other's deficiencies. Both were slow guys who used to be guards and have games that don't resemble anything like big defensive men that can finish inside. All they do is play finesse, outside game and play very little defense because they can't move their feet fast enough or use their strength to close the separation between them and the offensive player. Harrington still isn't that good IMO, but in a small lineup he's pretty valuable. I just think at PF, this guy will get smoked in the playoffs. I think the real value was adding Sjax because he plays the role of a shooting guard in a small forward's body. Jrich plays the small forward. What does Harrington do? He plays another small forward. I think we need a power forward and one that can rebound and do something else besides shoot threes. IMO Harrington's only slightly better than Murphy, just because Harrington fits our quicker lineup and he's got a good post game against small players. But man is he a weak finisher inside against guys his own size... not my idea of a good big man. But then how many good big men are there that we had a chance at? As for overall team tempo and lack of big men, I think guys like Jrich, tend to show more results in either halfcourt or open court because he's one of the few guys that can actually finish around the hoop. It's a form of inside scoring. Other than him, we didn't have much of an inside game and I think that's been the real problem. If plays are designed for "shooters" and we don't have good shooters, we'll we're boned. There's no inside game to get people worried about staying closer to the rim and daring shooters to take the deep shots. We still tend to take too many threes if we're stuck in halfcourt. I don't like that very much
I am attributing the dismissal of Troy Murphy to the revival of this franchise. That is more significant that pretty much any other change in the last 365 days. Hawks weren't looking for long term contracts, so..the deal was Harrington for Biedrins, ha ha no! I wouldn't even do Harrington for Dunleavy believe it or not. You want to have Harrington playing SF with Murphy at PF, talk about a disaster! Harrington for Murphy, however, I was completely down for, and I got my wish.
The revival of this franchise began with unloading "The Pylon" as fitz so aptly described The Flopper, The Liability, the worst player in WArriors franchise history...Derek Fisher. All you had to do is watch his pathetic defensive effort and performance 2 games ago. All you had to do is laugh as he continued to choke going to the hole leaving bricks for lay ups and then bitching at the refs because he threw up yet another air ball lay up untouched and tried to hide the embarrassment by crying foul. It was pure joy to watch the Pylon be useless waving for the ball, standing around hhoping someone, anyone will pass so he can jack up a brick..... by the way 3 air balls on the night.... pathetic... that is the first move to bring the warriors back....
So in other words, gid rid of a guard that can't drive/defend because he has no quickness, he can't finish because of his size, he can't shoot off the dribble because of his sense of balance/shot touch, and he doesn't learn to set up plays for other players because he's got the brain of Mickael Pietrus sometimes. Yeah I hate combo guards like those. At least be Nick Van Exel or Sam Cassell if we going to get shoot first, slow guards. Okay, okay NVE was still pretty quick for an old guy with knee problems.
Oh, wtwalker absolutely said BOTH. I will sit here and wait patiently until he decides to post again...In the meantime I will enjoy the awesome warriors!
