They're a delicacy in some countries. Don't knock it, 'till you've tried it.

i'm not worried about eating healthy, free range, rats that dont gorge on garbage. I'm worried about eating dirty, sewage covered rats that subside on rotting leftovers from the alley.

It seems weird to think of eating dog or cat, because of their status as pets in North America. However something like a Rabbit doesn't bother me at all, I guess it is because dogs are like the scrappiest scavengers out there.

Oh and Chinese tastes great imo, although usually not as healthy as what my mom cooks up.

    Sounds healthy [IMG]

There was a chinese place here that got shut down for the same reason. I guess someone broke in and when the cops got there they found dogs and cats hanging in the freezer. It was called the "Rice Bowl" or something.

I think all that crap is urban legends, I wouldn't trust it until I read an official report. I really doubt that they would save money by getting cat and dog meat, there aren't cat and dog farms that harvest their meat. Rats are just disgusting, I mean what the hell.

^^Well, I've heard it from multiple people in a non-demeaning fashion that it happens in China that you can pick your rat out from a cage and they prepare a meal with it and I've heard that they do eat dogs and cats sometimes (I have no clue how common it is), just a different culture and I believe there are not many cows in China.

Other cultures also differ from common American eating habits, Muslims don't eat pork, Old Testament dietary laws prescribe eating no pigs, no camels, can only eat fish with scales and fins, and no predatory birds and other dietary restrictions I forget, in India I think most people don't eat cows, and some are complete vegetarians.

WTF you can't tell that it's chicken if you ordered chicken? Why would they even want to cook dogs? Do you know how expensive dogs are in North America? How would they save money?

If it really happened, I can imagine that the news would jump on it. Do you have a real link or is this just what you heard from your best friend's third cousin?

I'm not saying it's absurd for other cultures to eat cats and dogs but in America it just wouldn't make sense. Chicken is much easier to come by than cat and dog meat and cheaper. I seriously doubt the Chinese have a secret vendetta to open up Chinese restaurants and trick the American public into eating cat and dog meat.

Well the place near here would serve regular chicken and beef too but to save money sometimes they'd just pick up stray dogs and cats. It was in the newspaper, told how the owner confessed and he told what they were doing.

Well most Chinese restaurants do have poor hygiene practices, there was a food court over at Chinatown in Toronto which was shut down after they found rats and cockroaches in their kitchen. I'd suspect that's the reason.

This thread is making me feel a bit sick, since I often eat from the Chinese Restaurant near my house. I doubt they cook dogs or cats though, but I can imagine rats and cockroaches running around their kitchen. Man, I hope not of it ended up in my food.
