Talent? The guy has been a complete and utter failiure since entering the league.

How come he was so highly touted to begin with anyway? Because he's Marbury's cousin?

Because he was one of the best players in the high school class of that year. Someone of his quickness and court vision projected to be a very good player down the road. All he needed was to add 20 pounds and a jumpshot and he'd have been better than TJ Ford. He let the money get to him though.

Man, that trade was really terrible in hindsight.

    How long do you wait?

How long do you wait for talent? The candy man was a top pick and a good young fella and look how he turned out...You cant bank on talent..u bank on performance and effort.

Get guys into green who can perform and work hard....eg Gomes....more like him please.

Yeah, talent. Anyone who is in the NBA has talent, especially a kid who goes straight from HS. He was one of the top HS players of his class, and is NYCs all time leading scorer.

Should have gone to play for Pitino.

Yeah, like STC said he should have gone to Louisville. But, he needed the money for his family and went to the NBA with that Adidas contract..

He definitely has talent. He was one of the best high schoolers in New York, home to some of the best NBA players. A couple of years in college would have definitely helped mature his game.

I really haven't seen much of him during his Boston tenure. But based on his stats it seems inexplicaple that he's done so poorly, especially since the injuries gave him every opportunity to shine.

He just needs the right coach. Obviously he hasn't had a strong role model in his life.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. Ainge (and most of the "insiders") said that they were going to pick Rajon Rondo if they kept the pick, anyway. They also traded away one of the worst contracts in the league (LaFrentz) for a shorter bad contract that ended up being covered by insurance this year (Ratliff), and expires earlier. They also got cash which is always a good thing.

Plus, you have to get the feeling that another team will trade away something decent because they still believe he can become what he's supposed to.

If you look at it from a cap space standpoint, then yea I'd agree with you. But for someone who was supposed to become the starting PG, he's become a hell of a distraction. They need to get rid of him as quickly as possible.

btw, Sebastian Telfair's situation is one of the better arguments for the age limit. He really could've been special with some college experience, but got lured away with a huge shoe deal from Adidas.

He could have been a really good player, he still could be but not as good as he was supposed to be cause of his off court issues. And I agree that he needs a good role model, maybe going to a team with a good head coach.

Celtics Move Toward Severing Ties with Telfair

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Just one week Sebastian Telfair was arrested on a gun possession charge, the Boston Celtics are severing ties with the guard after one season.

"I wanted to let you know that we have removed Sebastian's nameplate from his locker in Waltham. The facts and circumstances of his case have not been determined but he does not have a Celtics locker and we do not anticipate that he will," Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck wrote in an e-mail to the Boston Globe on Tuesday.

Telfair's playing time became increasingly limited as Boston's disappointing 2006-2007 season went along.

Telfair's cousin, New York Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury, showed up to support him hours before he was arraigned, the Daily News reported on its Web site.

"The players on the Celtics have been explicitly warned, this year, to obey the team and league gun prohibition as well as state laws. We take this very seriously and will act accordingly once the facts have been determined," Grousbeck said Friday night.</div>
    ESPN

Seems a bit harsh, but the players were "explicitly warned". Got to obey team rules. Still, I would have waited for all the details of the case before letting him go.

He's still got talent to be a good backup in the league. He'll find a place soon.

Well, he couldn't make the rotation on the 2nd worst team in the league, so I doubt he'll find a place anytime soon.

I don't think the Celtics wanted him back anyway, but this definitely put them over the top.
